called garrett on headphones and...............

Has anybody noticed they are also selling as accessorys,, a "4'' Sniper and 8'' Eliptical Coils to go with the New AT PRO!
what about us guys who already have bought these for our ace 250s are the conections/plugs going to fit this new machine???

I have a feeling that the AT PRO land headphones are going to be no different from the headphones Garrett gives away with all their machines during promotions or sales. The only thing different will be a different plug to fit the AT PRO. My prediction, many AT PRO headphones within a year will only work out of one speaker. No offense but Garrett land headphones have never screamed quality.

take care

There's two mentalities at work here as I see it. Some folks don't want to have to buy underwater phones in addition to the standard land phones. Others don't want to pay any more than they have to and the standard phones fit their needs. I'll add a third "reality". Some folks (like myself) would prefer even higher quality phones such as the Grey Ghost Underwaters and would wind up wiring a set of those with the Garrett water tight connector. I would prefer to not "pay for" the standard phones either if I was going to go with one of these two underwater options. So how could Garrett address these three sets of customer needs? First of all I realize the following wouldn't be very feasible to incorporate this late in the game this close to rollout and given that, if Garrett were to take the ball and run with this idea as soon as feasibly possible, some folks that buy initially would still feel "cheated" and complain, like in "The Parable Of The Workers" but what else is new?

Here it is: They offer the AT in three variations....one with the standard phones, one with the Garrett underwaters, and one with the GG underwaters. Let's look at the math using retail pricing and a little rounding. I would suspect Garrett could pass on some savings above these figures if they chose to do so. Standard land phones w/1/4" plug are $30 and I'll just (make an uneducated) guess the Garrett waterproof connector is $10 more expensive than the standard 1/4" phone jack. That would make the land phones for the AT's "worth" $40 and serves as a baseline. We already know the Garrett underwater phones retail for $100 which would make them a net $60 upcharge. That would make this version have a street price of about $660 ($600 plus $60). The Grey Ghosts retail for $150, add the connector into the picture, so $160 and a net upcharge of $120 making this version about $720. For the additional complexity of producing, subsequent distribution stocking, and dealer stocking, Garrett would be offering the customer exactly what they wanted in particular at the lowest possible cost because there would be no throw-away cost to the discerning consumer. I think they could hang their hats on this being somewhat a market "first" customer benefit. This could even be done initially in effect through the dealer network where they are equipped and authorized by Garrett to provide or "swap out" for whichever of the three phones the customer wants. That would (initially) make for some additional wasted effort due to the whole returning of headphones back to Garrett and what that entails but it would be temporary and assuming Garrett would wholesale the phones to the dealer, they would be monetarily rewarded for the effort and inconvenience. This would avoid anyone initially feeling slighted, screwed, or whatever. I can't imagine why the folks at Detector Pro wouldn't be up for this so I guess the bigger question would be, is Garrett? Top that all off with a Garret provided (at whatever the cost plus profit is) pigtail adaptor for those that have a particular preference of certain high end land phones such as already discussed and previously home made for use with Infiniums, and all the issues are addressed. Giving the customers the 4 options they want and all the profit goes to Garrett. Makes sense to me if no one else and please, Bearkat, don't tell me what an idiot I am just this once. My feelings are fragile.

I dunked my Garrett land phones under water once as I fell into a creek. They stopped working, I let them dry out and they came back to normal...seems quality to me. I've used others headphones and always come back to the Garrett's. I dont really know why this is a big issue unless those GG are that good. Never heard these problems with the Infinium head phone setup.

The submersable HP's are more expensive to make...therefore if they came with the unit, it would cost more to buy at its base price. If I owned Garrett I sure wouldnt give stuff away that cost more to make. They are in this to make money not give free stuff away.

I dont know if any of you's know but a dude makes these connectors and sells them on ebay to make it connect for other headphones (land). He makes it for the infinium but it will work with the At Pro.

Very negative predition there Jason....people are what they think.

that adaptor is $50.00 plus shipping on ebay. maybe i will buy the parts and just make it myself..either way no big deal. once you have one then the headphone issue is gone

At least you GET some headphones with the detector! Considering how many dedicated water hunters change out the stock headphones on their units, I really don't think this is a big issue. Since I only wade, as I suspect most do, the land phones will be just fine all the way up to my neck in calm water (as long as they don't fall off). I plan to buy the waterproof phones as well but don't feel like I'm terribly limited by only getting land phones.

Folks need to remember, this is an all-terrain detector that is ALSO waterproof. It is not a dedicated water machine! The 'package' from Garrett is set up the way the largest majority will need/want. It's the way it works when you're selling something! This is the problem with people nowadays-just because they're spending LOTS of money, they think it should be FAIR that they get a little extra. Well, in this case, the little extra is getting headphones AT ALL.

IS IT NOVEMBER YET?

i wonder if the connector can be removed on the garrett headphones like unscrewing it, and if you want to use different headphones you could just screw it onto the connector. cladking
