ATX vs GPX Part II - :garrett::minelab:

This may be comparing Apples to Oranges but I used to make deliveries into Bronx, Brooklyn NY and I found that 95% of the people where a pleasure to be around and i didn't let the 5% that trashed me sour on the complete area...... You will never (either side) get 100% participation/agreement.

that's the truth steve. it's just like most water hunters use ecxaliburs. they may be expensive and have a weird not so perfect housing but they do the best job. people use what works.

I hope Alan will continue to contribute - that Steve will do so also and continue as our moderator and that JP will continue to offer his experience to us (even if it is kind of upside down due to his being downunder).

No matter how much we may think,of our ability to express ourselves in writing, it's sometimes hard to avoid letting enthusiasm and even passion get expressed in ill-considered and tactless writing. Lord knows I've done it often enough in my personal and professional life. An ill-chosen word or phrase can wound and/or anger someone and cause a dialogue to take an ugly turn.

Having said that however, I think most of us even at our worst would rather be thought of as careless or clumsy rather than downright mean.

I urge everyone involved in this unfortunate exchange to accept that in order for a forum like this to function we all need to accept disagreement as a fact of life and not assign evil intentions to unwelcome opinions.

I thank all of you for helping me learn more.

The mono coil is already on it ! Oh yea, time to party!

Well; to be honset folks, Steve Herschbach has been my "metal detecting for gold hero's" since, I think, the late 90's. Nothing but respect for the man, still do too...but it has been reduced just a tad latley since he did not put his GPX settings here on the forum here to back up his criticism of my GPX settings...I think that would have been a welcome sight to see from him and everyone else that reads it , and most would have said "thats a standup thing that ole Steve did there"....Something like that, Lol... It would have gone along way for Steve do that, kinda like paying it forward, just a good deed to do even after being critical. Ya know, miners helping miners kinda thing.

I've heard so much neagative crap the last few days about my video that it is actually in the comical stage now. :heh:  Got to kinda be thick skinned when you put yourself on Youtube, which I am, but I still like critics to back up their stand with something other than blather...

But the good and thankful comments have far outweighed the critics. I've read the Aussie forums regarding the ATX and just like the Infinium it is being bagged without even anyone ever touching the thing, too funny, AND SAD!

Uh oh; another jab by Steve: ""That way he can advertise openly instead of using stealth tactics." I don't have any links or name to my site on my videos that I put here in the Findmall, and use the name of Bearkat and my Youtube channel I use for the videos is called AJMMarket and all the videos are "unlisted" on Youtube search engine. How is that stealth? Maybe I'll take that as a compliment as you will see why in the next paragraph...

My real job is Internet Marketing. I own 42 websites and build them for other people. I use advanced web marketing techniques to rank my sites in Google/Bing/Yahoo/FaceBook, etc... and all this I do free for my own sites and don't need to advertise here on the Findmall...so I can just enjoy the company of other detectorist without trying to sell to them. One of my sites I sell Air Guns as I'm an Airgun Dealer, very high powered Air Guns...pretty cool eh?

JP would call this being defensive...but Steve threw a jab so I must counter punch? Yes? I think so...I like a good rumble...:starwars:

I forgive you Steve for your last lab --- my former hero is now coming after me, that is way too cool! :surprised:

Don't leave us here Steve...I still learn from you every time I read one of your post or on your site. I'd like to read a post about your favorite GPX 5000 settings myself.

Guess what folks...2 more GPX vs ATX videos to come! Oh no Bearkat, say it aint so....yep it is so. GPX w mono coil and a deep buried 5 oz nugget test. Stay tuned... :poke:

So much Testosterone around here that I can't let my wife use my iPad - afraid if she handled it she'd grow a mustache.

Please - lighten up!

I thought that was lite...I was fairly happy typing the last post as it seems its coming down to an "understanding" between us all.

Just spray some windex on your iPad, does it not cure everything like in that greek wedding movie? Should remove all that testosterone from the iPad I think...Lol
Then all will be well...

In light of the above post by Bearcat, I have heavily edited my original posting. Let this be my "canonical" version of my post.

I will be delighted if the ATX turns out to be everything Garrett advertises it to be, namely a turn-on-and-go solution to 90% of nugget hunters's needs, but I'm waiting for well controlled tests to furnish data on that subject.

Please consider this as my last word on the subject and since this thread now stretches over 4 pages, I respectfully request the moderator to close it and allow those interested to start new threads if they have anything of general interest to contribute.

Till we get full discrimination with a PI detector, Ground Penetrating Radar, Molecular Discrimination AND a free pony!

""to promote the ATX as some sort of magic pill to make the GPX go away."" You are the one who says this, don't put those words in my mouth...what I say in my videos is the ATX is a great alternative to the GPX. I wont sell my GPX. I don't expect others to do it either. Quite a deady combo the GPX and ATX.

Maybe you should watch my videos again...I don't salt gold and I don't set detectors to look better than others. I have a video online where the GPX did better than the ATX...mayeb you missed that one. And I showed, I'm quoting myself, "this is how you can set the ATX to get close to the GPX depth".

Maybe you should find that one on Bearkat4160's Youtube channel.

Just so anyone who reads the exchange isn't totally confused, Bearcat is referring to a line I edited out of my original post. It was there. I re-read my post and considered that it was unwarranted, so I removed it.

His words about the ATX AND GPX being a deadly combo are interesting. I look forward to hearing how that works - but please - in another thread!

You are very perceptive Nightcrawler...

The fun wears very thin when people question my honesty or integrity.

I don't recall seeing any comments questioning that on this thread Steve. What I see (or saw before editing) was an absolute bashing of a person just trying to "step out of the box" and show us (the perspective buyer) a better look of what the ATX is all about in video form and I for one "really" appreciate that. No one else would do that at the time we as (perspective buyers) were "eagerly" waiting for "something" to happen from "someone" (even from Garrett). No release dates, no in depth videos, nothing about the ATX and we were just left "hanging" in mid air because of it.

I don't think theirs to many things that "Chaps My Hyde" more than bullying/intimidating/swarming on someone just trying to give his opinion/views on a product like the ATX that a lot of us really wanted to know more about (inquiring minds need to know, hehe) and Alan is really doing his best (in video form) to show us that.

Steve, this isn't a "prefect" world and we all make mistakes at one time or another (myself included). You have been (and hopefully still will be) a "Great" inspiration to me with your "no nonsense" views on any topic you write about regarding prospecting and metal detecting (including the ATX). That's a real writing gift not to many people have (myself included).

I hope BK continues to make his "great" videos and I hope people appreciate him doing so as much as I do. And that view isn't going to change with me.

This a Great Forum and I really hope we can respect each others comments/views here whether it's good/bad or indifferent. Theirs always a "diplomatic" way of expressing ourselves when we don't quite agree with someone else's opinions.

Food For Thought

Keep up the "great" work "everyone".

I for one, too am very glad that BK is producing all those excellent informative videos as this is the only way we can find out in more detail about the ATX's capabilities. And what better way than testing it against the top machine GPX5000. Unfortunately if we had none of these videos, we would hear a lot of "not so good evaluations" from the ML owners who (NOT ALL OF THEM!!!) would like to describe the ATX at best as a "Midrange" PI detector - sort of improved Infinium. Any possibility of the ATX being nearly as capable as GPX would be totally insane to even think of. I find this way of thinking pretty pathetic especially when people who like to say that have never even laid their finger on the machine. To them the GPX5000 is an unreachable pinnacle of PI technology. Period. Nothing can ever come close. NOTHING! I see it as an insult to all other than ML engineers. They're just not capable, therefore we can safely assume that the ATX or any other machine in future other than ML could be bagged as 2nd rate without even giving it a thorough test. Just check out the Aussie forum, and I am an Australian myself. Definitely not nice.

I have been working in a field of complex computer control and laser electronics for some 40 years, worked on PC boards worth of thousands of dollars and let me tell you - any electronic circuitry can be improved upon. ANY CIRCUITRY! PERIOD! So if some manufacturer comes up with a good circuitry, give him a chance, please. Just because his solution doesn't carry $5750 price tag, it doesn't mean that it is inferior to the machine that does. After all I would like to bet that it doesn't cost more than $500 to manufacture a top detector, but please don't quote me on it.

In closing I would like to ask the ML fraternity; please give the ATX a fair go. Criticize it and express your honest opinion but only after you've had a chance to use it. Thank you.

Jerry

All these videos I see, the ground looks really tame, or very very uniform to say the least. I am guessing that there is very little variation to it! The GPX's shine in the real variable stuff and pull away like a Maserati in top gear when compared with anything else I have ever used in that type of situation. The ATX may do so also but not what I have heard.
Here's a simple setup on a 5. Gain 13, stabiliser 10, motion slow or very slow, fixed tracking, g/b general, use a mono in fine gold or enhance, manual tune below 100. Volume limits and so on just go for the factory ones. I change mine here and there but for a simple test use the factory. Though by the look of the ground there I would crank the gain up a couple of notches maybe and see how it goes.
Sorry I have to add, this is some of the funniest stuff I have seen on a thread in ages. "I reckon this" "How dare you, im taking my ball and going home":argue: "Aww, I love you man" "Aww I love you too, your my BFF!" "Your my BFF too" :cheekkiss:
Hiiiillllaaaarrrriiiioooouuus

Well Smigo, I don't think you saw all of bearkats videos then.

You may want to go back and have a look at one of BKs first videos he made with the "Iron Stone" vein in it, nothing "tame" about that.

Why not just unfold, turn on, balance, and go like the ATX? That sounds a weee bit simpler to me. I like simple, simple is good (and efficient).

:)

Hi Smigo, you probably have not seen Warren's video either. Demo of a tiny nugget in Australian iron stone - so much iron content that the soil wraps around a piece of magnet. Check it out, it's on Garret's website in the ATX videos section.

I have not put the Atx in my hands of yet but hope to soon.
One thing is for people out there who have used a high end minelab pulse for the first time . When you pick it up and turn on and start operating it, at least for me there was a realization a definite feeling I had quality and power in my hands. God I hope Garret has duplicated this feeling at half the price and at least half the feeling!!!! Once you have felt the extreme superiority in a platform its hard to look back.
Minelab Has Key Patents in the Pi platform and every one else is trying to find another way to keep up.
So far what I see as special about the Atx is a new coil design with a in coil amp and water proof and that's about it. This bugs me so Ill say it, Ill say it again it doesn't even have a grip your holding on to just plastic that alone has got to be uncomfortable after a while.
Doesn't mean I wont try one!!!!!!!
Jim

Nope it is not uncomfortable to hold withut a grip...

I just finished looking at the in coil amp thing and that I cannot verify it was in My head from another post on the forum.
MY bad
Sorry.
