ATX vs GPX Part II - :garrett::minelab:

JP

I think Jerry was talking about the response you got as a "diatribe", not your input.

Steve,

Thanks

All's good on this end, I'm half tempted to spring for an ATX but am so busy at the moment I just know I won't have time to use it. I'm not for a second bagging the ATX in case anyone has got the wrong end of the stick!:surrender: I agree with Steve and his comments so far, and I feel sure I would find gold with one here in Australia even in the mineralisation I have here in my home town.:twodetecting: The ATX will find its niche in the market for those who are ready to take the next step from a VLF or specialists like Steve who want to dive into freezing cold water from time to time!!:garrett:

When it comes to the subject of metal detection, especially for gold, then I'm sorry to say but I suffer from diatribe-isms and verbose manic type-o-graphical manipulations of my computer:clapping::goodnight:, if I disagree with you then I will say so but I'm all ears on what other peoples experiences are, so to that end I follow discussions like this with avid enthusiasm. If I have offended anyone then I humbly apologise.

Yes Jerry, good points...give your alternate settings here JP if your so inclined.

""As far as I am concerned, the BK's video was to demonstrate the ATX's zero necessity to swap coils and/or settings and at the same time benefit from DD coil in mineralized ground"".
Some people just see things clearly as Jerry does...some people critisize without giving options...just sad.

I'm all ears to set up my GPX "correctly" -

At the recent Garrett ATX launch on the Gold Coast Australia, a demo comparing the ATX and 5K was taking place.

Someone else thought he could do a better job than the Garrett engineer in setting the 5K up.

.....this is a public area, no permission/invitation to attend required.

And your point ivanll?:poke: I have never used my 5000 in a park or at the beach.... maybe someone on here should state where exactly the comparison between these units should occur? Everyone please take it for granted I am only interested in metal detecting for gold and as such will want to be as far away from urbanisation as possible.

JP

Well, hope things proceed a bit more smoothly now!!

Meanwhile, Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

JP, that's when we eat our biggest native bird and celebrate that we made it through another cycle of planting, growing and harvest and we're still above ground!!!

Rick...man it was a great day out hunting with two gys with a 4000 and a 5000. They loved the ATX...of course video will be online soon!

Wow Steve you are word twister...anywho...it still is not rocket science, however and again I'm asking, telling, pleading or begging, whatever you want to call it, for you to put your GPX settings right here on this thread for us all to look at and IN MY NEXT VIDEO, which will be with a Mono coil on the 5000 I will use your settings. Put up or, well you know...

""Now you do not know how to get the best performance out of it."" -- Just because I'm asking for your settings does not mean I don't know how to do it. Just trying to get you to step up to the plate and back up your criticism with some real GPX info, not more manipulation with words. I said condescending first so you can't use it back by the way, Lol

Your comment on the other forum regarding my setup on the GPX was not to ADD some benifitial settings info..it was derogatory.

C'mon man ---- were all waiting for the JP and SH GPX 5000 settings!

PUT THEM RIGHT HERE IN THIS THREAD!
Step up to the plate man or eat your own words.

Happy Thanksgiving to you Steve and JP...

Well said there JP...

Well OK to this! yea man...this is what I was looking for in a response! I definitely don't know the Minelabs in that detail as you do and a big thank you Johnathan for posting this info.
When I do the GPX w Mono coil video I will use as many of these settings as I can to show the Minelab in its greatness a well as the ATX in comparison.

This is good stuff man...to be clear JP...the Minelab still has a depth advantage...which I did a video about it Here and demonstrated how to set the ATX to "get close" to the GPX on buried deep targets.

I'm curious about your assessment of the ATX DD and its sensitivity on the hot rocks and hot ground combo over where you are...time will tell how it handles it.

Thanks for your post and info...

Civil manner is all I ask for there JP...I will defend myself however when I feel the discussion is not fair.

""Alan if you do not want to attract heated discussion/debate with Minelab detector operators then you need to avoid doing comparison videos"" --- I really dont mind this and think it's kinda fun actually, however when someone says I dont know what I'm doing ---- Well; give me an option, an alternative, a different way....that seems the hard part for people to do --- the easy part is the complaining.

So again I say thanks to you JP for at least giving some options, and different info and set up of the GPX. I hope Steve will chime in on some of his most productive settings also...

Funny thing JP...This is on Minelab's page about the GPX 5000 ""Easy for the beginner through to the professional - you can switch on and go with six factory preset Search Modes and automatic functions.""

Lol, thats really all I wanted to do with the GPX on video, not get all into deep settings - but no biggy man, I'll do what I can for the request for different stuff, cause heck, I opened this can-o-worms, Lol -

Happy Thanksgiving!

 Cheers Steve, no hard feelings man...
Happy Thanksgiving dude...:surrender:

Alan

Pretty good depth test again, BK. Thanks for posting it and please keep testing and posting your excellent videos. They don't lie! What I like about the ATX, is its fantastic simplicity in operation and being ready and able straight out of the box with "1 DD coil does it all" and without any complex settings and "permutations" as Warren called it on one of his videos, that might require a lot of experience and are subject to lots of different opinions of different users. The affordable price is an added bonus, especially if there are not any DRAMATIC differences between the GPX and ATX. As a matter of fact I would always prefer a machine that is able to pickup small gold not too deep whilst sacrificing some 10% of the maximum depth advantage on some bigger pieces.

Cheers

Jerry

Jerry, That just about sums it up from my findings also about the ATX...well said man...more vids to come!

Got some video recorded today with other Minelab detectorist besides myself checking out the ATX...they liked what they saw!

Bearkat

Yeh, BK you really struck a few nerves on this one.

The truth hurts and after reading through all 3 pages of this thread (to this point) I can see who started this Trick and Pony Show and who backed him on it (disappointed I must say).

Keep up the great work BK, I see exactly what your trying to show here and some people just don't like it (bottom line).

:)

If I am correct in my guesses as to what you are implying then it would seem my sponsorship of this forum and attempts to provide factual information are not appreciated by you and others. I actually do have better things to do with my time and money and so will consider terminating my participation. Perhaps Alan would be willing to take over since he seems more to your liking. That way he can advertise openly as a Garrett dealer instead of using stealth tactics.

When GPX 5000 owners start dumping them and replacing them with the Garrett ATX then we will know that Alan Mash is right and I am wrong. Until that ever happens I stand by my opinion that the Minelab GPX 5000 is still the number choice for the serious prospector.
