at pro hype

I was responding to dirtdiggerdaves comment about not believing the AT PRO will pick up a gold nugget at 2 feetish just above my video. Video shows that is DOES!

You took it way out of context as I am a prospector and do it for a living and dont need your comments about the how's and how to's of prospecting with a detector. I have found alot of nuggets with my Garrett detectors.

Keep it in context please.

From what I can tell non-Garrett users and casual Garrett users have always bashed Garrett for as long as I have been detecting since 1997. I was in Georgia and a dude kept bashing Garrett in a conversation and he was sure convinced that Garrett were made in China. He was a Wjites guy and has alot of detecting experience. We were in a store that sold detectors. I grabbed a Garrett box that contained a GTP 1350 and showed him on the box it said MADE IN AMERICA on it. He said "well I just dont believe that".

Cant please everyone....Dont know if you recall but the Infinium took a massive bashing from the Minelab guys and others when it came out. It had a hard time getting over all that...a few years actually.

It seems to happen with all Garrett releases. I like other brands but prefer Garrett. I have used Whites and they perform very well but feel cheep to me. A Garrett feels like quality in my hand. I'm not a fan of most Minelabs...I just havent faired well with them. I ran circles around many different guys using a Minelab Eureka. They would complain about it while using it and called me over with my Scorpion to check a target or I would toss a small lead bullet down and they could barely detect it...all oif them. Dont like that machine. My Scorp does well.

OK, I just went back and read this whole thread. We're all wound up like 3 seconds before the bell on fight night!

Crazyman-sorry bud, you didn't sound as negative upon review.
Widebody-didn't know you were disabled, but I wasn't trying to make light of that in any way nor did I even know that was where you were coming from.

What seems to be happening is we have negativity and perceived negativity. This thread has turned into something other than intended I'm sure. For my part in it, I'm sorry guys!

IS IT NOVEMBER YET?

You attack someone and throw accusations out there about a persons character because they have a different point of view. If you can't support your argument with fact you go after them personally and then you seem hurt when they respond in kind. You claim that people are popping out of the woodwork making proclamations of 'no it can't'. Is that any different than the people making proclamations that "yes it can" before they've even used one? I'll give you the benefit of doubt and go by your own statement then. Point out a post by me where I said this detector can't do something. It seems your the one with an axe to grind.

I'm not hurt, but not attacking either. I've already mentioned that you got caught up in the broad brush of my response to people that want to be negative. Done deal. I even sent a PM apologizing to you. Over and out-let's talk facts when November gets here!

I own a white's V3,a minelab se pro,an e-track and a GTI2500 and 1500. all of them are heavy and wears an old man out quickly. add to that the junk i dig and I can hardly move the next day. none of the above mentioned minelabs or V3 get anymore depth or find anymore silver than the garretts.at least not in my state and where I hunt.I hunted with an ace 350 last week and found a lot of coins quickly and very little junk. Granted it was my first hunt with it but it's so light i hunted all day. The ATPro i really think will even mean less digging for trash. less weight, less trash means less pain as the bending over gets me more than a detectors weight.15 bottle caps is another hour or so I could be hunting.I sold my V3,my e-track and my se pro and I guarantee you I have ordered an ATPro. :) I beleive what my eyes saw on video and that's enough for me.

I had a pretty nice T2, which costs a few hundred more than my current Omega, not double. But I sold the T2 cause the Omega is better on coins. It's depth is about the same. Now, in general a detector that is mid priced won't perform like a high end detector, but I have a feeling things are going to change. With the economy being down, high end detectors are becoming a specialty item. There is a big and growing market for mid priced detectors. As the technology gets better it's also getting cheaper. This is good for all of us. I mean it's interesting that I am content with my $600 Omega but if I wanted to I have the cash for an expensive one, but it's performing so well. I just can't justify spending $1200 on a detector to get more features and 1" or maybe 2" more depth. But if a quiet detector (unfortunately not the Fisher F75LTD) comes out that is optimized for coins, I'll spend the money.

I hope this Garrett unit is good, I might get one. If it does as well as my Omega I would swap it out as I think the waterproof feature and more modes is reason enough. Isn't it great when manufacturers come out with new and innovative things? Others are forced to follow and it benefits all.

What state do you live in? I live in TN. and nothing will find more silver or go deeper and seperate good targets out of trash better than Minelabs. I've had Garretts and they are very good machines but just don't go as deep here. If the ATPro does what they say I will have one. A person that loves detecting would be foolish not to buy one. HH

I was commenting on the remark that Uncle Willy made that the AT Pro could pick up a cigarette filter sized nugget at two feet. A cigarette filter is roughly what, 5/16" diameter x 1.5" long? The nugget in the air test was substantially bigger than a cigarette filter, with much more mass. It stands to reason that a dense larger diameter object would be detected deeper than a smaller thin target.

I think that the vast majority of those asking questions are interested in seeing real world data on how the machine really works. Some big claims have been made and then hyped up by Willy. Like I said I have a great interest in this machine, but I want to see real data, not speculation. I am not willing to fork over $600 on hype alone, not in this type of economy.

Yeh that size definatley wont be picked up by the AT PRO I wouldnt think. I dont think even the $5000 Minelabs will hit that at that depth. But still good depth ithe AT PRO is getting on the larger items. Should get good depth I think that is comparable to more expensive machines. We shall see soon enough. Are you getting one?

Alan

I'm leaning that way at the moment. This is the first Garrett machine that has interested me since I sold my 1250 a few years ago. I will be paying close attention to the field tests that will be rolling in over the upcoming months.

pyledriver,
no worries. awfully big of you to man up. frankly i was wondering who was bashing what. this has been a strange year for me. i bought my garretts only to find i have difficulty using them. i then buy a whites only to find my model is discontinued this year. then whites comes out with an improved version of one of their current models and garrett comes out with the pro. have i mentioned before how much i like the looks of the pro? i for one don't go on hype. as been stated already only time will reveal how good these machines are. i for one have been wanting to try the beach surf on some of our rivers and lakes but can't afford to soak my machine. so i have some high hopes that i may be able to use the at pro and get myself and it wet. i don't do 10 ft. water. and if i can't use the at pro my daughter can. and it's $300 cheaper. hope my dealer will have a demo model.
