Anyone have the information on where to get the plastic screen overlays for the explorers/etracs?

Please do not let this get out of hand. I do not want this subject to cause trouble.

I am going to call the company to try to get them to advertise on this site.

The owners of this site have every right to set the rules. If it was me, I probably would do the same. After all it is there dime and the idea is to make this site worth while enough for all to visit often and to have it self sufficient.

So far this stuff has far exceeded my expectations. Even though it has a little bit of glare, I can still see the screen unlike the available covers with the Vinyl clear screen covers. And even though I have gotten the E-trac really covered with lots of mud and sand, not even one little scratch. No more worries about that problem ever again.

I also have been experimenting with clear silicone caulk to tighten up the control box and the battery compartment / handle to make it waterproof. So far that has worked out really well. The one place that most people overlook is the shaft. It is hollow and when putting the coil in the water, it fills up and when you bring the coil above level, the water runs into the control box. I just put some caulking in the shaft and problem solved.

I still would not recommend using the E-trac in the water because it will fall and that will be that. Best to get an Excalibur for wet work and not have to worry. But having a water resistant, scratch resistant E-trac to use if it rains is really nice.

Just one thing to remember when installing,MAKE SURE TO TURN ALL FORMS OF AIR MOVEMENT OFF AS IN HEAT OR AIR OR YOU WILL GET FINE LINT AND OR FUZZ UNDER PROTECTOR AND MAKE SMALL BUBBLES,Ray.

hi ray-mo,could u please elaborate on what sreen protector for psp is,and what type of shop sell it dont have the same multi purpose shops as u over the pond, thanks.

The screen protector for the psp (Play Station Portable) is a clear protective adhesive plastic sheet that is used to protect the screen on the psp. It can be probably be found in the gaming department at any store that has a gaming department. I'm not sure of the etrac screen face size but you might need 2 and trim off the excess

I sent my SE in to use for making the pattern. It came back and the covering looks like a really cheap way to protect your detector. I wish I'd had it for my E-Trac. I was careful but after working all day in wet ground my thumb scratched the cover a little. Steve in Ohio...Great minds. I looked the cover over really good and decided I too would put some silicone caulking around the edges of the screen area as well as caulk the entire seam that goes around the unit for disassembly. I figure I'll just put tape over the speaker holes. Then let it rain and no more ill designed covers. I do think I'll call Minelab in the morning and find out how water proof the screen and detecor are. Like..will it handle a steady rain and not ruin it? I don't care about immersion I just want it to not die because I hunted in the rain....Jim

My Thanks to the information with regards this American screen cover.

My screen pack has just arrived in the UK from the USA.

It fits a like dream to my E-Ttrac and the screen is crystal clear.

I will now cut the pastic screen out of a Minelab protective box cover so that the plastic box is protected for knock and bumps also dirt.

It will be easy to carry a spare minelab box cover just incase it rains when Iam out on a dig.

Thanks again guys what a brilliant idea of yours.Jerry.

I've been out with the E-trac here in Florida on the beaches and I can say that if it was not on, the screen would have been toast.

It has rained here and the sand sticks to everything it now being wet. The sand is like little pieces of sharp glass and because it is wet, it sticks and scratches anything it comes in contact with.

I can now wipe the screen clear of sand and not worry about destroying the screen. Glare is about the same as with no cover at all....maybe a little bit more but not much. Far easier to see in the sun than the standard covers. No distortion at all.

So far the cover is working perfectly and I would say it is well worth the money to protect your investment.

Hi Steve,

Nice to read your take on the screen cover.

Today was the first time that have been able to read all the the screen data when out in the fields.

The protective box cover with the clear plastic removed was in use to protect the box itself.

The problem being that it has lost its tight fit to the box with the clear plastic removed but I solved this for today with 4 elastic bands but I think that I have the answer to that minor problem if the wife allows me a loan of her sewing box.Jerry.

Now more of using the screen covers is there a manufacurer who can supply box cover without the redundant plastic front.

I have made one up but it would be nice to have a professional one with the elasticated front surround to make them a nice fit.

My mk 1 does the job but a machine of the quality of the E-Trac deserves a better product than my prototype.Jerry.

You can also get a Tyvec car cover and use the material from that to make a cover. It has to be cut to fit and then sewed together. I made a prototype for my E-trac and it looks and works great. It is water proof and will prevent scratching of the box and keep dirt out of the speaker holes.

I then took my own advice and sewed the Velcro to the material and stuck the self adhesive side of the Velcro to the machine.

It fits real tight.....very smooth....no folds.........protects the speaker holes from water...it is light brown and looks good. The cover stays on and does not move around.

My camera died recently and I cannot photo it yet. I was thinking of using that glue that is advertised on TV to stick fabric together to make my next version. Will save time and not have to put the sewing machine to work.

Hi JBM, That's a pretty good job you've done there and seems actually a great disguise for your e-trac.
Looks like it would do just as well as anything you put on it.

HH

That sounds a fine idea as you saw my sewing is very basic but the cover has me underway.

I will try the velcro idea next.

I would not have made a very good sticher after surgery,

Mant Thanks,

Jerry.

When I was at Kellyco the other day, they expressed interest in carrying the cover. They may end up carrying the cover and will possibly be available from them.

Not so sure I like it. It comes in a "kit" form with absolutely no instructions, has a bottle of a liquid that I do not know what it is used for, I think it causes a glare in the bright sunlight. Is hard to apply without getting bubbles under it Any help on applying this would be greatly appreciated

You are so wrong the instrucions are plain to see and understand.

I followed them and have No bubbles.;)Jerry.
