any ace 250 loyalists try the f 2?

Batteries: Agreed, 9 volt rechargeables are terrible...
ACE 250 with it's 4 AA batteries gives no problems, just remember to replace them when they dip under 3 notches.
ACE 250 headphone volume loud? Not when the wind is blowing and the waves are splashing...
ACE 250 headphone volume loud? They sell neat earphones with volume control at most electronic stores.
ACE 250 is a very fast replying machine.
My only beef about MY ACE 250 is the silver reading lower than expected, while old tin cans ring all the way to the right.

I am looking to buy my son a new set of headphones for his ACE 250 or 350? He has the stock ones now, any recommendations. Thanks OG53 ,

On another detecting forum , not sure Im allowed to name other forums on here , the F2 gets many times more great reviews and reccomendations than the ace , even by tesoro and garrett loyalists. The benefits of the faster retune speed and the numerical ID readout seem to the most talked about abilities spoken of in comparisons between the f2 and the ace. I myself have had an ace 250 for 3 years and Im pretty proficient with it and I like it , but after realizing all the frustrating quirks the ace has and having to learn to use the machine in spite of them I kinda think if I had to do it all over again I may choose the f2 instead. The faster retune speed alone "could" equal more finds and less trouble in trashy areas. The f2 is also supposed to do a lot less falsing than the ace. Ive found over $300 with the ace and a gold ring , so I cant complain about it too much but , I learned to use the ace pretty quick but it did take a lot longer to learn how to use it to its FULL potential than it should have in my opinion for an entry level detector. Opinions vary but Ive read enough posts on it to believe the f2 probably kicks the aces behind. And I prefer garrett over fisher detectors.

For $199 for the F2, plus a free small coil and 5 year warranty ... it might be worth the gamble. I own an ACE 250, great machine for the price.

Exactly. For the money, the F2 is hard to beat. I have an F4 that I picked up for half price due to the original purchaser not being able to figure out how to put together the shafts. They actually disassembled the the cam-locks. I kid you not.

My first trip out detecting was with my dad's 'guest' detector, an ACE250. I liked it enough to go buy an ACE350 with three coils. All things being the same, though, I'd rather swing my F4 than my ACE350. I primarily coin hunt (although I wouldn't object to some gold), and the ACE just doesn't work as well for me as the F4. It finds coins, alright, but I can rarely tell what I'm digging until it comes out of the ground. The target ID on the Fisher is much better at telling me what I'm digging. That said... were I a relic hunter I'd probably stick with the ACE; especially with the 5x8DD coil. That 5x8 is deadly. I like that coil so much on my ACE350 that I haven't even tried the 4.5" sniper that came with it. I only put the 8.5x11 on when I've got a lot of ground to cover.

The F2/F4 looks and feels a bit cheap, but it is a sturdy machine. As far as batteries go, I had my F4 out a LOT before I needed to change batteries. 9.6v rechargeable (vs the usual 8.4v) batteries should give pretty good performance, too. I'm looking for an F75 for my next 'go to' machine instead of an AT Pro, if that means anything.
