any ace 250 loyalists try the f 2?

Thanks for the in depth reply. I've owned 3 garretts over the years , and always liked the quality. I haven't owned any recent garretts. that may change.

That's me you described. All true.

I bought it. I used it several times and I liked it and I talked about it and I'm emailing copies of the manual out to anybody that asks for it.

Only I like the F-75/Explorer II combo better and I'm selling alot of stuff that I really like to fund my Explorer purchase, like my best headphones, my pocket uniprobe, my Cleansweep coil, a Nautilus DMC that I had just bought to rig out and yes, even the F2. And if I still come up short I'll be selling my F-75's small coil assy as well until I have the purchase price covered.

There are two other reviews as well.

BCD and I both bought F2s at about the same time. Neither of us were terribly impressed.

We've both had many years of experience with TID machines so I'd like to think that we were somewhat qualified to make viable comparisons between the new F2 and our 250s. We both found the F2 lacking.

I haven't seen alot of new, positive posts on the F2 lately.

I'll sell my F2 cheap (won't list an asking price here as this isn't the classifieds)

The review above pretty much echoes the post I made over on the Fisher forum that got deleted with the rest of BCD's string.

I'd recommend thinking long and hard about buying an F2, do the research (as you're already doing) and decide whether or not you want to take a chance...

when asked on the Fisher Forum to compare the 2 machines. Got my kiester handed to me for my trouble and my $200 I paid for the F2!! Get yourself a 250, learn it and it will get you plenty of loot, lasts a good long time, and comes with great Garrett service and that's all I've got to say about that!! The F2 is sitting behind the bedroom door now with the batteries removed. Make offer??

The wonder is, how we fell for the hype and stepped into that bucket of crapola!

I don't even believe I could, in good conscience, give that thing away...

Apologies for my harsh tone, to any that find it offensive... the whole experience just left me a little upset!

Something as simple as that can really make a difference when purchasing an item. Colour, weight and versatility all play a part. The name of a detector has a role as well and as far as I'm concerned the F2 just sounds goofy. The "Ace" 250 has a good ring to it and when I get a couple of Aces playing cards I know I'm onto a good thing. The Ace 250 has been used by alot of my friends when they come out detecting with me and to be honest its hard trying to pry it from their hands when its time to go home. You can't deny the Ace, its a fantastic machine at a terriffic price and to be quite frank any other machine trying to knock it off its perch has a massive task ahead of it.
Cheers!

The F2 is a fine machine from surface to 3.5". Anything deeper than that and the coin TID is way off on mine. A wheat penny at 4" reads as a pulltab. A silver dime at 5" bounces from iron to pulltab on the F2 while my Ace 250 calls it a dime or quarter. This was on measured depth coins buried in the mild soil in my back yard. On a positive note, the F2 did give a solid repeatable nickel ID on my gold wedding band buried at 4" while my Ace bounced around a little from tab to nickel. The F2 seems to be tuned more to gold and nickels than copper or silver.

along with $50 and I'll take it. That about what the hazardous waste people will charge for disposal. Just trying to be accomodating, LOL.

Most people wish the Ace had ID numbers, but I'm telling you, after getting used to where objects fall on the icons, the dang thing's pretty accurate! Now I'm not claiming my Ace is a depth monster, but the first 5" are pretty much covered in my areas. The batteries LAST a LONG time(w/headphones) and the notch comes in handy in some areas. I absolutely love the Relics mode-I would buy the 250 over the 150 for the Relics mode alone. I'm sure the F2 is a nice detector, but after learning my Ace I doubt I would change. To compensate for the loudness of the Ace, I wear cheap Koss headphones(small cups) about an inch in front of my ears. I like the fact that the Ace goes deeper when sped up and slightly shallower at a slow speed-I have identified some large trash using this characteristic. While a lot of detectors can only have their sensitivity lowered to a preset level, the Ace goes REALLY low and I can search some areas where the large trash objects set the detector off and effectively hide the surface objects. I also love the customs mode, and have found rings in the foil/bottlecap area by just omitting the tabs icons. It's so versatile I just can't see how anyone can find fault. I have many other ideas, but I'm sure you're tired of my rattling.

I owned the Ace 250 for seven years. It was and still is a great machine for anyone
who wants to metal detect. Just look at the new issue of the Garrett News Letter and see
all the finds made with the Ace. I just upgraded to the Ace 350 and it's EVEN BETTER!

Would I ever try the F-2? Only if I saw a good deal in a pawn shop. Then I might give it a try.

In what way is it better? Thanks

The term "BETTER" is relative.

Is the Ace better than the F2?
Probably only in terms of THE FEATURES you get
and the bang for your dollars. And perhaps how well built it is.

The F2 does just what your Ace 250 does: IT FINDS STUFF!
Its relative. The AT PRO and AT GOLD is a better machine for
GOLD nugget hunting that the Ace 250 or the F2 because of the
ground balance features. If one machine is better than another
is just a matter of what you want it to do, in my opinion. If all you
want is to coin shoot or do some ocassional relic hunting
then the F2 if probably as good as the Ace 350.
I have also hear from some F2 owners who say the Ace has a faster
reecovery speed, so in that sense, if thats something yoou prize, then
recoverty speed makes it better, up only if that appeals to you.
