just because a product is made from cheap parts does not mean it should necessarily be an inexpensive product. Engineers have to be paid well, workers have to be paid, all the bills and taxes have to be paid, the dealers have to make a living and this is not a huge hobby.
I own a service business and my actual cost of product when i do a regular job is maybe 3 bucks... however I have to pay an employee, I have to pay for trucks, gas, taxes, product and I have to make a living... the average cost to the customer is 85 bucks and my work usually takes me about 30 minutes. My customers are happy with, my prices, my work, and with me... and if it were not for my wife becoming a CPA and making more money than I do... we would just be getting by...at least I have job secutity, and so does my employee, who also has a family... I keep this business running mostly for him. He actually makes more money than I do, but he does a LOT more of the work than I do.
We are getting a good deal on every detector I know of, particularly on the better ones. If it weren't for the security side of the detector companies we would be lucky to even be getting new detectors, much less good ones...
So give me a break folks... a business has a lot of responsibilities and and has to not only be sure it's employees make a decent living.. the company has to turn a profit. Some people seem to think that the people who go out, take the risk with their money, and start a business should run it like a charity...
Prices are going up.. this is just the beginning. Pray that the dollar does not lose its status as the world reserve currency... if that happens the dollar will lose a LOT of its value... everyone needs to be buying and keeping some silver... pre-1964 quarters... they are well undervalued right now and may just save you if this house of cards comes down. In bad times silver is usually 1/16th the price of gold. Right now silver is around 1/50th the price of gold... and silver is more easily traded if need be.... just saying.
