Gold, Big Silvers and 1872 Indian

Nice group of coins. I like the 1950 Uncle Sam play quarter. It's quite a challenge to find all the years on the nickels, dimes and quarters. 1950 is an early one. They made them into the late 60's from what I have been able to find.

    Very odd puffy quarter

It's probably a trick squirt quarter that was sold in novelty stores in the 60's. There should be a small hole near the rim or on Washington's face that squirts water when you squeeze the face. You put them under water and squeezed a couple times to fill with water. The trick was to tell some...

    Beans Are Better Than Corn

Yes, you're right, I have found coins right next to the roadway in the past at the schoolhouse sites, but it gets very trashy next to the roads. Also sometimes these old roads have been shifted slightly from the original road and I'm sure there are old coins buried beneath gravel that has been...

    Beans Are Better Than Corn

I was able to get out to a farm field that I hunted once last fall. The field is the site of a former one-room schoolhouse and is about an hour and a half drive from home. When I hunted it last fall it had been planted in corn. The stubble and chaff was somewhat difficult to hunt then, but I was...

Anybody out their Ever find 1877 Indian Head Penny?

I think you could actively dig for 40 years and never find an 1877 Indian Head. There is no area of the country or type of spot that would give you an advantage in finding one. They were not identified as being rare in 1877 so most of them circulated just like all the other dates. I have found...

    Big Silver

Nice Walker. Way to go! My thought is that it has been hunted several times and the Walker was passed by as being trash because of the size. Did you turn up any Indians or Wheats? Hope you find more after covering the area.

    Some May Be Lost Forever?

I like going back to the farm fields year after year hoping to find a few targets that have been turned up after another season of being plowed. As most hunters realize coins can be moved around enough to then be detected. After several seasons of detecting, most of the fields seem to dry up. The...

My most interesting find to date

If there is a farm field on the property, it might also be worth hunting.

    Big Coils and Coin Depth.

I have a Nel 12" X 13" Tornado coil that I purchased in 2019. The mistake I made when I first started hunting with it is that I thought I was going to suddenly start finding coins 3" or more deeper than the F75 factory coil. The actual added depth is more like 3/4" to 1". As we all know this can...

Any difference between the regular 1266x and 1266x XB ?

I used a 1266X with the spider coil for many years. In Al Metal mode it will match the newer detectors of today. It is a great coin finder and while running in the All Metal mode it is an excellent relic machine.

My best find in my own backyard

Nice find and right in your own backyard. You have an advantage living on the west coast in that you are near the San Francisco mint. I'm sure there are a lot more "S" mintmark in your part of the country. Most silver coins that are dug here in the midwest come out of the ground untarnished like...

    Sun Glare

    That's a good point.

    Sun Glare

I use a dust cover on my detector when detecting. It's great for protecting the screen, but on sunny days it can reflect the sun and make it quite difficult to see the numbers while swinging the detector. Has anyone experienced this issue and found a fix.

    Got a sweet coin tonight.....

Enjoy that SLQ find, they don't come along that nice very often.

    Silver everyday for 5 days

Nice Hunting. The wooded parks are good for finding small patches of ground that have been overlooked.

Seated and Others / Old Pin & Jewelry

Whenever I see multiple dimes found without a few quarters, it is a good indication to me that they came from hard hit areas that were deep or masked and missed by other hunters. Nice hunting.

First hunt from 1762 Salt Box permission

The 1875 CC has the mintmark below the bow. It must be a little more rarer than the above bow type because it catalogs a little higher. Very nice find. Also the Washington quarter looks like a 1932. If it is mint marked with a D, it is the key coin of the set.

    Back to the hobby

It has many options in Disc. and All Metal. I like the 2 Tones with 0 Disc.

    Back to the hobby

Great detector. Have you used the F75 in the past?

Revisit to an old house site today....

That's a nice triple Merc day, and a few wheats too. Good call on the small coil.
