    Great hunt ELP.. I would say the ornamental brass piece is just a trim plate for an old door knob..judging by the style I would guess Victorian era 1890s...having grown up as a paperboy in a very old town I’ve had the pleasure of knocking on many old doors have seen many similar types..

    No,not necessarily, there are many scenarios where other metallic items will have similar numbers,it’s only a guide..an acid test might give a better idea if it is ...if you are looking for civil war bullets I believe they would ring up somewhere down near nickel range as they are made from lead...

    Nice score TVR.. I found a 14k pendant at a yard sale a few months ago..I had to have my wife take a picture of it as my eyes can’t focus in on tiny marking..turns out it had 14k stamped at 3 different places and I could see 1..paid a buck for mine..

    What amazes me is the fact that this was given or purchased in 1934 which was only one year after The Great Depression and a year after the government abandoned the gold standard...money had to still be incredibly tight for most people...
