Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

Yeah we hooked the Explorer up to scopes and figured out how it works long ago. What's important on the Explorer is understanding what it's Gain and Sensitivity setting truly are, and the order in which they are applied.

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

This modified Explorer will be strictly for beach hunting, which can be a LOT of swinging and few targets to dig at times. Hence the Explorers 5lbs can wipe out your arm on those days.

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

Speaking of the Explorer...my SE Pro is undergoing Manticore inspired surgery. I think it's going to be under 2lbs. Hip/Chest mounted with the Manticore/Nox 900 carbon shaft. I 3D printed a new housing which will be waterproof.

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

Well so much has happened in the past 2 months. I'll start with a Manticore update. While it remains king of depth, small targets, coins/rings on edge, it crushes the Explorer SE Pro in these areas. Sadly, I have discovered a few Manticore shortcomings relative to the Explorer SE Pro. Explorer...

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

Update: Sand...3 feet of it pushed in and buried everything. All gullies filled in. Made the trek this morning with fingers crossed...a flat target desert of sand arrgh! So I made lemonade...took in some ocean air and sunshine, put the Audi hot rod mode and made some noise on my way home!

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

I honestly don't remember. It was the Explorer II or SE Pro.

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

Beach field test #2 tomorrow low tide! It's going to be 101 degrees here at the house so I'm escaping to the coast, high of 70 over there! 1. I'm going to adjust some iron tone stuff and look into the Stab feature to make sure it's off. 2. Coil cover is now OFF. I thought about taking it off...

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

FIELD TEST: I took the Manticore to the beach Saturday for it's first field test. It was a Manticore vs Explorer SE Pro hunt with my buddy using my SE Pro with my settings. I found the Manticore surprisingly simple to use. I selected the default Beach mode, upped the sensitivity at 25 and ran in...

Boring time on the OR Coast

I heard South Beach in Florida is a gold mine, I'll visit there some day. Also you know where else they dig a bunch of gold, Hawaii. Some much gold to dig, so little time. I need to retire and get to work!

Deep Big Silver / Coin Silver Pocket Watch Cover / 1934 Chauffeur License Badge

At well hunted beat to death sites I look around for the absolute last place anyone would bother swinging a coil and hunt that. I picked off a lot of old coins doing that. In downtown Albany, NY there are two major streets that come together in a 'V' with a small wedge of grass smack in the...

Adding that to my finds bucket list. Nice unusual find congrats!

Boring time on the OR Coast

Sunday I'm heading out to the WA coast 250 miles north of you for the 6:30am low tide. Mostly for the drive and fun. West coast vs East coast - North West OR/WA beaches - A couple weeks ago large sections of this WA beach drive on/parking area I'm going to was sanded in. The sand was heaped up...

    Building your own coils

I feel like I want to ask you what your Explorer settings are for the beach because the 11" SE Pro coil works exceptionally well for me on southern NJ beaches including the cut condition you described. The way they have the rock jetties down there you can see noreaster cuts of 8-10 feet of sand...

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

I never really tried coils smaller than the Minelab 8" digging in NY because old coins were 6 inches minimum and deeper. So smaller coils than that don't really work if they can't also hit that depth. Shoulder pain is beyond annoying, my left has some arthritis or something setting in. Both my...

    Building your own coils

Not that I'm aware. The old Minelab 8" (really a 7 inch) was quite good in rusty nail infested areas that would be a good alternative. There was a rusty nail infested area of a park in downtown Albany, NY I rarely found anything with the stock coil. Took that small Minelab coil in there once and...

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

There's a popular river swimming beach near me that's so nasty, you can't even get an Explorer 8" coil near it. The machine squeals like a stuck pig. The less intense areas are still quite challenging. Signals are pretty bad at 6 inches, in some areas even 6 inches is nearly impossible. There's...

Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

All air tests, I wanted to take soil out of the equation for these tests. First establish the ID on a rock solid signal. How the signal behaves at different target orientations (45 degrees, 90 degrees on edge) effects on ID, tone shape. Observe the behavior from the iffy signal range up through...
