2nd Colt Open Top Pocket .22 Cal.

I hunted a farm field yesterday that was the site of a former 1860's church. Although I only found a couple of Indian Head Cents, the best find of the day was my second Colt Open Top Pocket Model .22 cal. Revolver. The first was found at a schoolhouse field site in April 2022 and had a serial...

Eagle I buttons are always nice.

    Beans out back at it

Nice token. I haven't found one like that. Looks like circa 1910-1930

First hunt in many years, local park, 90 minutes

Sounds like the bug has bitten again. Keep at it!

Need some help with this one. I found this within about 20' of Civil War bullets, buttons, a Union US buckle. Can anyone tell me what this may be?

A chamberstick candle holder. If it was found in the area of Civil War action,I can imagine a soldier huddled around the candle light writing a letter to send back home. Nice find!

    Silver and gold

That's a very old site. Even though it's been hunted hard, you managed to pull three good finds. Nice hunt.

For all the guys and ( gals ) who have been detecting for a while ( like me almost 30 yrs ) what haven't you found yet.....

I have found a Silver Three-Cent but not a Nickel Three-Cent Piece. The nickel content and small size makes them hard to find.

    Anyone know the difference 1265 x vs. 1266 x

I had both and could not see any difference in depth or number of finds. The 1266X had a "Spider Coil" that may of been slightly lighter.

Big Silver / Canadian Half Dime / Very Old Printing Plate

Very nice finds. The 1905 V nickel is noteworthy because of very little wear and is in decent dug condition.

    Rain clouds have silver lining

Finding Standing Liberty Quarters as your first two silver quarters ever is very nice. They just don't show up that often. Nice finds!

Do I need permission from anyone....

It looks like a commercial area. If you're somewhat apprehensive about it, hunt it on a Sunday afternoon or evening.

    Good find with the Etrac

Nice find in the iron. These came tied to a new pair of shoes that Boy Scouts wore. They all have the hole in them.

    Banning of metal detecting

There are some that do not fill their holes. When you see an area that someone has done this, it is very unsightly. I think that the unfilled hole issue can many times be attributed to squirrels and other critters This is especially true of parks and any area that has a squirrel population.

    F75 is my favorite still.

Hunting with DST "OFF" does get a little more depth as jim tn stated, but even when it's turned off it's still a bit compromised compared to the early F75's that did not have DST. Many of the early machines were sent in for the "Boost" upgrade and were returned somewhat degraded because of the...

That disc laid there a long time waiting for you to come along.

    Confederate Heart Breaker

fwcrawford: That's a great catalog reference photo. Yes it's a one piece button and It's interesting because mine has all the characteristics of 2D such as spear location and dots between each word but it measures at about 0.875 which is 22mm as like the 2A.

    Confederate Heart Breaker

I do believe you are right about the lower button now that I look at it closer. It is back stamped 'YOUNG SMITH & CO .I found two of those and I did keep one and gave the land owner the other. The bullet info is also very helpful. We don't find a lot of Civil War era type of items here in...

    Confederate Heart Breaker

I was able to detect a former one-room schoolhouse site this week. Toward the end of the day the owner stopped by to see what I had found and I was able to show him several Indian Heads and a couple of Wheat Cents. As we were talking, he shared the history of the farm that has been in his family...

The Spanish silver is an excellent fin. Did it ring up in the 70's ?
