    When in menu - Frequency, don't go into expert. Just press the + button and it will move up to the higher frequencies.

    The type of threads you describe are (in my mind) like you would find on a wood dowel. Like on the end of a push broom. Just another idea path to look into...

    You can buy a replacement clamp from XP or slide a piece of thin cardboard under the clamp to secure it when it's clamped.

    That type of pin back has been around since the 1920-30's and still use today. Cheaply made round hinge and separate C clasp. The more modern (1950's+) machine made pins are made with a bar between the hinge and clasp to be soldiered on in one piece.

    Waterdog is right... Take your time to learn. and don't worry about your batteries.... Your brain will explode before the batteries go dead. I've had my Deus since early 2012 and have never had the batteries go flat before I did.

    I think the symbols look like Scottish thistles on top of a cross or sword. quick search to give an idea. They Also look like sickle bar mower tooth guards.
