Our first outing with the V3i and my 10 year old son is hooked!

After spending almost a week getting to know my new V3i I took my son out for his first treasure hunt. Our first stop was an old elementary school grounds. The school is no longer then, it's a parking lot now. We spent about an hour there and worked to deal with the extensive iron and can...

    V3i and mobile phone.

I have an iPhone 4 on GSM and have not noticed any problems. What system is your cellphone on?

Only one word for the V3i

I agree that a PC interface would be a very welcome feature. It seems to me it would be simple to make a USB dongle that would emulate the V3 wireless program upload/download function. Make the PC device look to the V3 just like it was another V3 and then write a bit of code to...

    Can't wait!

Thanks for the advice! I had used a White's Eagle Spectrum for a little over 10 years and was just itching to get the V3i out to see how it compared. What a difference, but then again there was a comfortable familiarity to it. I spent the 3 days before receiving it watching the online White's...

    Can't wait!

Finally got my V3i yesterday afternoon! Got it put together and the battery on the charger. Was just tickled to find the spare battery pack came already stocked with alkaline batteries so I could power it up and play right away. Took it out into the 98 degree heat and 90+ percent humidity and...

    Can't wait!

Yes, I ordered it with the wireless headphones. My question about the headphones was to determine if I could also use wired at the same time as wireless for training my 10 year old son. If it wasn't going to work I would have had to get 2 sets of the wireless and wasn't too excited about...

    Can't wait!

I placed my order for a V3i yesterday evening. Just checked, it is in "Pending" status. Can't wait for it to be shipped! Until then I am reading up on everything in this and other forums to learn all I can about it.

Batteries for battery backukp pack suggestion

The LiPo's have a nominal cell voltage of 3.7V and are not directly interchangeable with other chemistry's. I was planning on using a 3 cell pack with a nominal voltage of 11.1v. They come in many physical sizes and shapes. I would find the largest one that would fit the spare case and wire it...

Hello all! Returning to the hobby after 10 years....

Thanks for the fast reply Rob! Glad to hear it will work like I want it. When training my son I will have the observer wear the wireless and the hunter will have the wired. When going solo the hunter will have the wireless.

Batteries for battery backukp pack suggestion

I am also into RC airplanes. The batteries used in that hobby are Lithium-Polymer (LiPo). There are packs made to replace standard 8 cell NiCad and NiMh packs. The LiPo's are a bit more expensive and require special chargers, but they have an extremely long shelf life, on the order of years...

Hello all! Returning to the hobby after 10 years....

About 20+ years ago I had purchased a White's Eagle Spectrum and learned the hobby on that. It was a whole lot of fun and I almost always came back with plenty of "stuff". As changes occurred in my life I had stopped using it and sold it about 10 years ago. Now things are such that I can get...
