What i want to know is, which detector do you like the best ( for you). It can be an older model or new. I would like to know which one you prefer, one that just conected with you.
I will start it off by saying mine was the Garrett 1000. That is the one i just felt comfortable with. Very honest dependable machine. Thanks
 
Best oldie? A Tie...Whites IDX Pro with Bigfoot coil mad Treasure Baron Goldtrax.

Best current? My current favorite is a Teknetics T2 - prefer it to the Equinox 600 I got recently.
 
A couple of detectors did it for me.........the Nautilus DMC2B and the C Scope cs1220xd.......both older machines.
The Nauti is a one of a kind machine.......looks like something out of frankensteins laboratory but to this day can still shame many new models on sheer performance.....Jerry Tyndall was a genius.
The 1220xd also still has a place in amongst modern detector designs even though it is an old design and operates as a non motion machine.It has many advantages,the main one being the fact you can swing the coil as slowly as you want.This enables a much more thorough search in which you are less likely to miss targets.....have you seen the speed some detectorists sprint over their fields.
It also allows you to detect much better in confined areas such as tree roots and in between stiff stubble.......brilliant machine once learned properley.
Two detectors....old designs that i would put up against anything on offer today

Nokta Impact for me.

12 different modes.
3 selectable frequencies.
Variety of available coils.
Fantastic target separation speed.
Super deep in mild to moderate ground (my ground).
Undeniable customer support.
 
One of my all time favourite machines must be my original T2,so versatile and with a few coils can 'almost' cover my everyday detecting needs,but saying that no one machine does it all,so i also do have a very substantial detecting arsenal and even bigger selection of coils for site specific uses.
 
a Teknetics Mk-1; beach, a CZ; diving and CW projectile hunting, Aquapulse 1B with 10" loop.
 
that was a collaboration effort between C-Scope and Discovery (seems I recall the R-1, other VLF's, and maybe a P.I. also that was an Eric Foster design
that came out years ago.) I subscribed to The Searcher and, Treasure Hunting some years back and recall articles and ads on those units.
 
My Sovereigns with the Sun Ray 180 meters took a while to learn and thought I had made a mistake getting one, but after I learned it and became one with it it got me more old coins out of those worked to death area than any other detector so its my all time favorite Some of my favorite ones where the XS and the best was the GT in my opinion. There were many more I really like and like you say the GTA 1000 with power-master was one, the Whites MXT was a fun detector to use and the E-Trac was good to me and preferred it to the Explorers and the CTX 3030 and now I am try out a Equinox 800 and still haven't tried my Makro Kruzer to see how they will work.

Of the older detectors the Compass Relic Magnum 7 was one of the best , but then came the Teknetic 8500 B and the Mark 1 which were tougher to learn and further ahead than others, but we cleaned up good with them back in the 80s.

Yeah mine was the gtax 1000. When i was using it everything just felt right, or in balance. Hard to explain. Also used cz-5 that i felt was a very good detector to.
 
I would have to go with my Troy X5. It was light, well balanced. For some it was a love it or hate it machine but I worked well with it. A nickle magnet.
