Sure looks like a new machine is coming out because that combined with this guy's blurb of a Minelab tech saying we'd be "blown away" is starting to add up to something...

I was at the B.O.N.E. last weekend in NH and there was a Minelab sales rep & tech there at dinner every night. Was great to have someone answer questions. I begged for info on new products but they wouldn't give a peep, even after a couple beers. Only thing they'd say was that we were gonna be blown away this year.

I just hope the machine isn't a giant leap in technology some how (like say a picture of the target in the ground) that will make it real easy for people to clean up all the silver that is left in old parks, and easy to find all the gold rings while leaving the junk...Because if that kind of thing ever is developed it will quickly KILL the metal detecting hobby and in the long run hurt their sales as well for these companies. As it stands right now even with the best of machines (Minelabs) on the market you still have to work in many instances to pull more silver from pounded out sites. Things like digging signals that are so deep that they are iffy, or one way coin signals that are a null or junky sounding the rest of the way around the target because of severe masking. I like things the way they are...Where most of the time you have to work for those silvers still left and nobody who doesn't earn his stripes through experience can just buy a machine and walk away with all the silver that is left to be found. If that changes to where some machine can easily get all the coins that are left and not have to fight for many of them then good bye hobby.

I just don't want to see something that is so far advanced that like I said it will *easily* get the rest of the silver that is deep or hiding in trash, or be able to get gold rings while leaving pull tabs and other junk behind. If that happens then like I said it will be the end of this hobby. Quickly the public spots will dry completely up and be truly "hunted out" for real this time, and the only place you'll be able to go will be private land that hasn't seen one of these new detectors yet.

wonder what it will be ? GPX only been out 18 months etrac probably the oldest sense new modal guess we will find out real soon if it is a new modal etrac type machine will there be lots of 2nd hand etracs for sale? i did say that minelab will have a new machine out soon in light of lost sales to The Deus.

About four months ago ran into to a guy hunting in the water talked about our finds He told me Mine Lab was coming out with a new water machine and Its called a excalibur professional series and is going to retail for about $1800.00 U.S. dollars.could not tell me anything else.when I sent my excalibur in for repairs talked to a service person and could not verf or denie the new machine.

The big "D" hurting Minelab sales? Maybe a little, but probably not enough for Minelab to worry about. Many say it is by no means a replacement in many respects like depth and VDI reliability.

Hunting private land or water hunting for fresh dropped rings will probably be the only things left to do in metal detecting if the technology does make a big enough leap forward to do the things above. I'm sure I'm over reacting, but I tend to do that. Watch it just be that new pinpointer they are supposed to be coming out with. What a let down that will be for some people, but not me.

I want to be able to still work hard at deep coins or ones severly masked in iron or trash and still come home with the silver, or dig a bunch of junk and pulltabs looking for that elusive gold ring. That's what makes this hobby so fun and challenging. If you don't have to do that anymore and the finds are effortless then it'll be like shooting fish in a barrel for a few years and then when all that's left dries up it will be pointless to hunt public sites anymore.

Somebody slap me and tell me I need to get ahold of myself and that no such technology is going to exist for years to come.

Sigh...Thank you, I feel better now. For a minute, anyway...Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go hunting for the silver that is left before a newbie with no experience uses this new machine and snags all that remains up effortlessly.

If this thing costs $2500, the only way I would buy one is if it could positively ID gold apart from aluminum and other junk.

Sorry but your all going to be disappointed - technology rules but only as far as the laws of physics allows - don't expect any more depth - only more bells and whistles - if I'm wrong I'll be first in line for one!
