I know Im not the only one here that does this.....I hope Im not.
Do any of you when you find a coin and it looks really cool, ever lick it and rub it with your gloves to get the date ?
Maybe its just because Im still new to this.....I look back to when I landed my 1st liberty quarter.....I was licking away on that thing.....a little dirt never killed anyone.

ahhh...can't say as I ever did. I carry a small medicine bottle about half full of water for such times. Happy hunting and stay healthy.

I definately don't...they don't taste good at all.

Not good especially diggiing those in a dog park ful of geese!:yikes:

In my opinion, licking coins is like bitting fingernails.

Licking anything out of the ground to get a better look at what it looks like is a seriously risky activity.
Omoeba, Worms, tetanus, Bacteria of all kinds, to name a few.
I know of one person who died from licking a gold nugget that he had just dug and a few hours later, lights out!

I have a sink at home that I clean my coins in :))
So I can honestly say I don't.

Sorry

Happy Hunting

Looks like your the only one that does this Andrew. I can understand getting happy over a nice coin , but no licky lick. I carry a spray bottle of listerine with me in case i cut my hand while hunting. Definetly would not lickem anymore Andrew. ANDREW ARE U STILL THERE! ANDREW?

Im glad I posted that......you all could have saved my life. I will try not to lick for now on....I cant guarentee it though.
Heck my grandfather ate worms in WWII while he was a prisoner......so I figured I could lick a little dirt.

I feel its all been covered relative licking....what has not is rubbing the dirt off your coins with a glove-finger-etc. can scratch and devalue a key date coin..Small spray bottle does the job plus keeps your hand and detector clean...A tetanus shot is also recommended for all of us dirt diggers...

I have put coins in my mouth while out detecting,,only one at a time and only coins that I could tell were very old. It is not going to hurt you,,come on???
Money that you touch every day has more bacteria than most items. A coin that is buried in the ground,, I say if pretty dam safe . Does anyone have a garden?? Potatoes,,onions,,carrots,,ect... all grown in horse chit!! Taste great,,lol.

About the coin thing in the mouth,,, I have only done it a few times,,it does clean a coin,,,, but swallowing it is a bigger danger than anything!!

By the way.. what flavor was it.

At first its a little gritty with a earthly flavor,,after that there's not much there! Every 10 minutes or so,,pull it out and look for a date!! lol

andrew i Like my fingers N rub the coin???? But next time i got to grt a Lik in??? mickfin

[size=large]i only lick the coins with the chocolate in the middle. licking the others is very dangerous. it only takes the one time and then, trouble.
to each their own.
