Xterra 70 on NH beaches

BarnacleBill,

Made it to the beach, put up with the cold and wind/sand storm for about two hours. Got me a bottle cap and a metal ring from a lobster trap.

I did however lower my sensitivity and had better luck not finding nothing. Turned it up a notch and found a couple "nothings" Notch it back down. I guess (I hope) nothing was there.

Can't wait till my second coil shows up. I understand the 5" x 10" 18.75 kHz works better on the beach.

By the way, what state are you located in?

go look at the beach forum. Some very experienced hunters got zippo after hunting for hours. Beach hunting takes a different skill set than land hunting, most of it has to do with predicting and reading sand movement. Those guys know what they are doing, yet the storm didn't cooperate, so you're not alone. For some educational material follow this link, lot's of good info.

Well, the more I use the machine on the beach I realized I may not have had as many false targets as I thought. Two and a half hours yesterday, with a small shovel and the new vibra-probe to discover that the signals I was getting were deeper than the depth shown on the meter. The signals would range from 10 thru 38 or so. With a little digging and warmer weather, 21 degrees and no wind, I am picking up wire mesh lobster trap parts. I am excited, I also got my first pull tab! and another bottle cap.

BarnacleBill,

The Golden Olde link was very helpful, I knew I wasn't going to find much but I wanted to work with the machines sensitivity to reduce the false targets (or what I thought were false targets) now if I could only get rid of all the -8s at 10". What do you recommend for digging in wet sand?
