XP Deus sniffs out a Confederate Mississippi I button

I can’t say more good things about the XP Deus, it is by far the best relic/coin metal detector I have ever owned -and I’ve been metal detecting since 1999-21years now since I finished grad school in 1996.

In an area that we have pounded with every machine in the last 9 years I have dug 4 Confederate buttons in the last 4 weeks; 1 Reb button a week which was unheard of with my Nox, AT garbage Pro! Lol, F75-LTD etc.

Yesterday I only had a flat button and a piece of melted lead to show for in about 6 hours of hunting-but in the last hour I recovered my 2nd NY Zouave cuff button at 6 plus inches down and not more than 5 feet away at also a depth of 6 inches plus I dug my first Mississippi “I” Infantry button. Although a plow put a dent crease in her face I’ll take her and she is a beaut and gold gilt shines through after cleaning; backmark is: HYDE. GOODRICH. N.O. (New Orleans LA manufacturer)during the day.

both targets were mere whispers in the mid 65-75 range in heavily mineralized iron; this machine is a killer on small brass buttons. This year already since March I’ve recovered 11 Civil War buttons-4 Confederate buttons from this site. I’m using Deus Fast with 28 KHZ. Curious as to what other settings XP Deus users are using for relic hunting. Happy Hunting XP Diggers!

Congrats on the buttons! Nice Miss." I" just has a little character, that's all. I'm probably averaging a dozen
buttons a year on the Deus. I know my finds rate went up considerable after getting the hang of it (Deus).
I use a full tone and a pitch (HEAVY iron) program based on the fast. But I'm still running the 9" LF.
Some programs aren't for everyone! If it ain't broke don't fix it! Seems like your doing just fine!

Thanks for your feedback, I forgot to mention I’m using the white round HF coil but I agree with you sir-if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Borrowing from an infamous info commercial years ago; “Set it and forget it.” 🤪😜🤣😎

Well I knew you probably were running HF when you said 28Khz. 18 is highest freq on LF. 9" HF is on my
radar though. Was kinda torn between that and 9" X35 but leaning towards the HF. I've had all kinds of
machines over the years but I'm now in camp of one machine and learn it well. OK if you have the jack, but
a lot of people get drawn into the next big thing. Been there. So have others. Keep doin what you're doin.
Looks good to me!

Agree there is no holy grail in metal detectors; learn your machine well and run with it. Even with “el cheapo” radio shack special; if a guy can learn all nuances of that machine with time will out perform anybody with a top of the line detector who doesn’t know the machine. Happy Hunting!

When I used to hunt w/ my dad I changed machines 3 times in 3 years and dad had his original machine
and he outperformed me most hunts!
