xcal 2 with doc's treasure screemer,,peltor 105's

Been asking everywhere--Where do the wires get hooked up on the NEW male/female plugs for the Excal II ( to get soldered on). There are 2 terminals on each plug---a long one and a shorter one. I am assuming that there will be 2 wires when I cut the head set cord. I AM NOT going to start until someone gives me this information--Please. I even traded e-mails with Doc and he said he is not sure how to hook up the in-line "screamer" on the Excal II-----HELP PLEASE I can be e-mailed at boogherj@yahoo.com Thank You

Hang in there doing a Brake job..will post later....joe gotta look it up and there are 4 wires 2 sm 2 lg

OK here the wiring schematic for the headphones on the Excalibur 2, this came from bill branin in La's Vegas who's still repairing excals and others.
4 wires
res white tie together, these will be the hot side or audio signals
yellow black ties together as these are your grounds....
hope this helps all

Thanks John...perfect! Just make sure you get all in the respective places when you solder up your plug....AND A BIG ALSO is to make sure that you use some good sealant on all the black coil wire where you cut and solder your wires...like aquaseal or a good RTV silicon.......what you don't want is moister or water to wick down the inside of that black cover to your electronics in the pod...This is even something you may want to check once a year. After 18 months mine had started doing this and it only traveled less then a inch...The pic is the setup of doc's amp I used this summer, I like it because no wire dangling or a cleaner setup. Basically I just ran the black long cable from doc's amp thru a small whole with all the extra cable bound up inside, then I epoxied the RCA jack out the bottom. Then I made a jumper that plugs into doc's and the connects to the transducers or speakers inside (red & white] {yellow & black}

Thanks TC...No percentage here...the mode has payed for itself..........several times over......Any % should goto CJC or Mr. Gold master...Both had alot to do with these modifications.........If not for CJC's books on the xcal..I still would be swing a stocker model...

Here is a neat picture from Nero on a prospecting forum about the secondary field that I have been talking about that a DD coil has {The Green Field}, this you will experence more then often hunting in PP and with the AMP....the smaller the coil the stronger this field is, like wise the bigger coil the larger but much weaker field...........ANd this Illistration is from Nero..some great Photoshop work...........Joe

Ok--Let me be sure I have this all figured out. 1. Cut the cord on the headphones about 3" from cup. 2. Expose wires--should find 4 wires--red,white,yellow,and black. 3. Cut insulation off of the ( now 8 ) ends of the wire in preparation for soldering the new male and new female jacks into place. 4. For the male connector (repeat for the female connector as well)--take the red and white wires and splice together and take the yellow and black and splice together. We should now be ready to solder the new male and new female ends in place. QUESTION--I know absolutely nothing about these jacks--Which of the 2 terminals inside the jack is for the ground and which is for the audio. There is a short terminal and a longer terminal on each of the new ( male/female ) jacks.---OOPS I just looked at both jacks--The male jack indeed does have a longer and shorter terminal--it looks as though the shorter of the two is attached to the center of the plug. The female plug, however , has two terminals of equal length with one appearing to be copper and the other a silver metal. I may be making a bigger deal about this than it should be or maybe I missed something along the way--but I must understand everything before I cut the wire to my headphones. I think we are on the homestretch guys--maybe one more correspondence will make it all happen!! Thanks--Joel

i just held both ends of the jack next to each other and soldered red and white to the left one (on both )and the B andY to thew right one it worked

Upon closer inspection of the female plug it seems that the smaller copper terminal will hook up with the tip of the male plug when the male plug is inserted

try this Boog.......

i'm thinking of selling a little of my gold to get an PI detector like the garrett mark 2

Okay, this is getting ridiculous now. I just ordered the TS and Peltor 105's and I haven't even taken the Excal II to the beach yet (tomorrow will be the first time). Please! No more mods that promise more depth. That's like selling something that will make you younger. Who could pass that up? ;) HH!

there's still another mod that you can do, check out the modifications forum for Mel Parker's pp/disc mod put onto hand grip, it works great and allot easier than constantly reaching for switch and switching back n forth.
Ive had this one done to mine and it works great,am/pp to disc on hand grip
just thought id throw this one out there too,as I'm gonna do the headsets myself soon,Ive got an amp on the way to me,ill order the peltors later this week and then ill try it with the Sony's.
good luck to all
john

That's funny John. Even though I haven't had this machine long and have only been to the lake 4 times with it, I thought that it needed a toggle on the grip to switch between the 2 modes. I have an old Fisher 1220 with this feature. Thanks and HH!

Hi John,
Is the toggle switch mod water proof?

Thanks

Best regards,
Steve

Got 2 IP 67 buttons ordered..will be doing this around the first few weeks of the year..will post some pic's........think they are good for about 7 feet under

Joe, you got it all covered, don't you!

Thanks,
Steve

Hello everyone again--I appreciate all the input and resourcefullness that everyone is putting into this project--However my one and only question still needs to be answered. Which wires get soldered to which terminals to allow for the proper functioning of the TS? If all we were doing was placing a male and female plug on the headphone cord and then reattaching them --there would be no issue on how to connect the wires to the terminals of the new male and female plugs BUT we are adding the treasure screamer into the mix and I certainly would not want to hook the audio wires up to my male plug terminal so that when inserted into the TS would hook up with the ground connection. Make Sense???????? Maybe I have a mental block or it is right in front of me--but I still do not understand . Please GUIDE ME SLOOOWLY THROUGH THIS. Thanks once again---Boog

all you do is plug headphones into your amp and then the other end to your detector...
the amp is in the middle of both...
detector output to input side of amp then headphones to output side of amp
ive not gotten mine yet but i do understand how they work and from the pics that are already posted by obn its really really easy...
hope this helps john

yes the switch is water proof,my mod works great too..just goto the mods forum and check out mel parkers mod for doing this, theres all sorts of pictures on there...

Lets try this one more time---I am using the TS on my Excal II. I need to CUT the wires because there are no connections ---i.e. the headset is "permanent". When I cut the wire to my headset I have to install a male and female jack on either end of the CUT cord. There are 4 wires according to the responses on this thread----Where do I solder the 4 wires. There are only 2 terminals on each plug. After installation of the 2 plugs then it is a simple task of hooking the "in-line" TS and heading out detecting. Happy Thanksgiving
