WSAII-XL Headphones, Warning

Steve O

Well-known member
I just received the WSAII-XL wireless headphones.
Warning> Be very careful when pulling the plug out of the charging port. It takes some pulling pressure with one of your fingers/thumb. I always like to apply only enough pressure to undo things. That's just what I did to get the plug out and the hidden plastic tether broke off. Now the plug could come out fairly easy in the field. And the 1/2" tether rattles around inside the phones. Not sure if that will mess anything up or not. I could send them back . . . .but the chances of that happening again are big . . .poor design. I'll probably just put up with the flaw. As I'm not sure one can get the plug out without breaking the frail tether.

I received my WSAII-XL wireless headphones and thought here we go again why such a cheap and poor design on another accessory. I would just put a piece of duct tape over the USB to keep the dirt out or send them back and wait. (they have a 5 year warranty). I guess XP cuts cost by going cheap on things like charging wires, charging clip, wired antenna, tether to keep remote from being lost if separated from the stem, lower rod, short legs on arm cuff, etc... I have learned to go easy on using these items and so far so good. But, the bottom line is since May 2022 I have used the XP Deus 2 and it is such an awesome detector I have worked around these faults.

Could the rubber o-ring size be increased to create a tighter fit without breaking something?

Mine have done the same as have plenty others apparently, it causes no operational grief. Poor build quality as already mentioned.

That's it buckeeee. The plastic rod attached to the plug is where it broke and the little rod slipped into the phones . . .when I shake it, it rattles.
Jed, good idea. They should have made a screw in plug like on the D2 remote.

I drilled a tiny hole in the bottom side of the plug after mine broke off. And I used some 40 lb test braided fishing line as a tether and just attached it to one of the posts on the edge of the ear piece. That way if it falls out while hunting it'll just hang there.

Did your's arrive in a box?
Do they sound as good as the WS6?
Mine arrived in a plastic bag with no paper work at all. And they had scratches all over.
Plus the sound is muffled in my opinion
I'm thinking about sending them back.

USPS cardboard box, yes.
The WS6 phones would sound great if they were over the whole ear. I'm not use to "on the ear" phones.
No paper work. Nope.
It is not as crisp as I'd like, yes a little muffled. I'm getting the jack adapter so I can wire up my Grey Ghosts.
I'm keeping mine. They are comfortable and I do like to block out other noises, especially if I'm at the beach detecting. Doesn't the D2 have a way to change the audio to the users liking?

I use the WS6 with the Quest headphones. I'd never attempt to use it otherwise.
You can change the audio but that's not going to do anything about the muffled sound.
It's strange, that some people talk about how crisp sounding they are.
