Would you drive 6000 miles to find a penny?

I know the feeling Mason. I found a large cent last season and have decided to forego the clad this year and concentrate on the old stuff. It's beat up and bent but I consider it my best find.
What years were you in the AF?

I joined in Oct 1978 and retired on Nov 1st, 2008. They wouldn't let me stay any longer. It was a great career choice for me and I loved ALMOST every minute of it.

Mike..... Good luck on your trip and hope you find your LC!!!!! Don't believe I've heard of anyone in our area ever finding one? Oldest for myself around here is 1853 seated half so it could happen I guess. I've also been thinking of a tecting road trip myself and did a short one last summer but in reality I found little time to actually spend tecting and more time driving and trying to find places to hunt. I did manage a few silvers tho and had a good trip.

As I type this I still have 1.5' snow in yard and the frost got drove way deep before the snow came so it may be awhile yet around here? Good news is that it FINALLY warmed up and raining last 2 days and looks like it'll stay warm for awhile......

keep in touch with us when you are on the road.............

I want to find a large cent but I don't so far! Best is go OLD and private place! My friend Betty found 1817 large cent in field in Virgina. I think more chance is far eastern states and do research to see any place that is before 1850's! I hope to find one this year!

Yes, it's a big country and it'll be tough trying to hunt in places where you can only, realistically, spend half a day or so there. I have done a lot of research through the winter and have three 2 inch binders full of maps I've printed. Yet, my best luck will likely come from hunting with some people who know the area. I have 6 people who have offered to help me and honestly that's more than I thought I'd get. Americans just aren't much into face-to-face socializing anymore.
But, I'll make the best of it. And when I get home I WILL be able to save I've been to all 50 states. Vermont will be the last state of the 50 that I visit. I'm still hoping to hook up with you on my return trip when I get to Montana. I'm hoping to be able to upload some photos and details of my trip as I have the time, but for sure will put up an end of the road story when I'm done.

I saw Beth's post on the E-trac forum. I think she found TWO LCs. Dang it. That's the same field I was going to hunt! HAHA J/K. That ring Rob got was a great find, also.

yeah....you hook up with a few members who'll get you swinging right away and that'll really help the dicken around time......have fun!

I look forward to your visit Mason!

Thanks, Gary. I'm looking forward to it, also. I know it's asking a lot to have someone come from the other side of the country to hunt your spots.....and you're doing it twice. I hope I'll be able to repay you one of these days. If you like to hunt, I can definitely help you in that area.
