Would like some info on the Spectra V3i ...

All,

How well does this detector do with regard to finding gold jewelry? Would you purchase this detector again? I am undecided between the White's Spectra V3i or the Minelabs Etrac? I do like the info that I have read on the Spectra V3i's descrimination settings!

I dont know what you read about the V3i and gold jewelry but wjth any detector if you want to be successful find gold jewelry your going to
have to dig alot of pulltabs and other junk that comes in at the same numbers as the goldrings and gold items.
If your looking for old coins it does really great. I was out 2 hours today and found 4 siver dimes(2merc,s 2 rosies) 2 wheaties and some newer clad coins.
I have a Se Pro and it does real well too. Hope this helps,,good Luck!

I do like the features on both units.....etrac is a heck of a detector but like the v3i better in trash as it gives me more info to use. The v3i does have more of an EMI problem than the etrac. Alot of it can be eliminated by changing the settings on the v3i as its pretty much automatic on the etrac with 1 exception. I think the v3i is a tad bit better on gold but the etrac picks up most gold very well. I at some point in time will probably have only the 2 detectors as they both pretty much cover all my needs and I seem to do pretty well with both.

Minelab has some nice ideas and both have some nice features. Whites has the best customer service and American made so you are going to have to make the choice.

Good luck to you

Hi and welcome I have done real well with my v3i finding gold the first hunt this year netted me a gold bracelet and two gold rings at a local park as well as my story was published in the whites web site for the month of May, like it has been said before to find gold you will be digging a lot of foil and pull tabs one of the things that you have to do when searching for gold, this is a common problem with all detectors so everybody looking for the gold dig a lot of trash, oh by the way only you will have to decide to dig or not, myself I would surely dig the trash knowing that if i get lucky it will be worth it, I sold the bracelet for $480.00 and got $100.00 certificate from whites for my story so I dig the trash too lol. hope this helps and happy hunting .

p.s. my avatar is a pic of the bracelet

If you are after gold and want a vlf machine than there is really only one choice...... The Whites v3i. I have found 3 gold rings this year. My hunting partner has found countless pieces of gold, literally. He is out every day. The v3i will find a piece of gold the size of this in the quotations "--". It will see this over 75 % of the coil at 2" deep.

Your average pull tab is all but ignored by the other competitor, however so are gold rings and chains. As for silver I got another a nice piece today at 4" in a trash filled yard. A gold band weighing 4.5 grams will be seen at 6" with the gain turned almost all the way down.

I honestly cannot say enough about how happy I am with this machine, it is the pinnacle of technology and the competitors are suing them over it. That should tell you something.

I have friends that use the Etrac and we compare signals all the time. While I do think the MLs excel in certain things, the one major advantage of the V3i over the etrac is the V3i is much more sensitive to tiny gold, such as earrings and charms, especially in 22.5Khz.

If gold is a mainstay pursuit, the V3i is amazing for this. (There is more gold chain out there than people realize and the V3i smoking in just this one "department" IS a big deal.) Whichever machine you choose, it's gonna have it's own strong points, but....the V rolls strong in so,so many ways.

All honest reply's, but what would you expect from V3 owners? They are both good detectors and we are not suppose to be comparing brands,Remember? OK, I've been informed as long as there is no brand bashing have your say.

I agree that there shouldnt be any out & out trashing of any certain metal detector or brand but how else can people learn about things if you arent infomative and candid about our experience and knowledge? Its true...some people get carried away and get personal etc and they should not. That is what is great about the United States...is that, you have a voice! WE should agree to be able ...to disagree on subjects, opinions and information. If we dont...we would be a falry tale land...saying everything is good....when its really not. Lets just all try to tolerate other peoples views and maybe even discuss them and who knows.....maybe we might learn something we didnt know ....and even make a friend that we didnt know we had!

Viva La Diggo!

You are right James and Find's has loosened up on the comparison rules. We are watching comparisons so they don't get out of hand with brand loyalists and name calling like it used to be in the "olden" days. It seems now that many users have multiple brands and models, each best in their field of specialty and the differences can be discussed without becoming hostile, it used to get so bad that members were banned. Let's see how this goes and I have advised Rob. Please remember that this forum is here for the benefit of V3i users and serious comparisons have much more room for discussion on the Metal Detecting forum.

mstreasureseeker,

Unfortunately, nickels, pulltabs, ringtop pulltabs and gold jewelry fall generally (and I mean generally) close to each other in the VDI. All I can say is that get out with your detector and test out different types of pulltabs, ringtops and even gold rings of different sizes and karat. Nickels show up at around 17 to 19, gold rings show up from about 12 to all the way up to mid 40's. Some bigger rings show up at around in the 50's.

Like everybody was saying, your going to have to dig all targets that including pulltabs.

Hope this helps,

TC-NM

Thanks for all the info about the Spectra V3i I appreciate it... Cool ! I think I will order it! Any preferences as to the company to purchase it from with regard to the lowest price?

Thanks, Toni

If you are buying new, the only authorized mail order company is Kellyco. You might want to check out a local dealer who provides hands on training, and another alternative is a nice used detector from one of our sponsors, the two year warranty is transferable.

here are some latest pics of my finds in regards to gold jewelry and other stuff....its there...just got to find it! I like the analzye feature too on the v3i...it helps me not dig a lot of trash. The majority of the time, I cant tell if its rings or coins but can tell if its good stuff or trash.
