Wireless Headphones

Folks,

What other options below 100 bucks are there for the poor souls that can't find the Auvios? Anybody tested a different brand with good results?

Thanks
Antonio

I went to the Radio Shack in my area, a suburb of Los Angeles, and was told that the Auvios 33-283 were not discontinued. The store I went to had 3 sets on the shelf, so I bought one. Maybe it could be ordered over the internet?
I will be trying them out today.

I got the Auvios, too, and like them. Just $11 for a 2 year warranty, if you're worried about breakage.

Were they at the 49.97 price?? Every once in awhile I hear a static for just a second but otherwise I think they are well worth the money. The thing I have to learn is to remember to turn off the power switches on both the transmitter and the headphones when I'm finished or going from one site to another.
Don't forget to re-locate the transmitter so it doesn't get damaged. I ended up using velcro under the battery case of the E trac.

Can't find them anywhere online :(

They have not been online since they went CLEARANCE..You will have to start calling around to some Radio Shacks to see which stores still have any. That is what I did and I got lucky with the 1st store I called.

Tried the Auvio's today. I didn't find any delay in the response. But I supposed if you were swinging the detector to fast you might experience some delay? Not sure. I just went at my normal pace and they seemed fine. The only complaint I have is the low sound they give off when finding a low conductor target. My complaint is the comparison to my Pro Gold head phones. The wireless sound seems not as crisp on the low conductors, muffled a bit. With the high conductors, clad quarter and dime, silver, the sound seems very similar. So far, so good.
I found one quarter, 7 dimes, 5 nickels, 4 pennies and trash for a 1 1/2 hour hunt.

These headphones had no delay at all and were awesome fitting and light. I agree with kraykepler, pay the extra $10-$12 for the extended warranty as I miss them. Definitely turn power off on both transmitter as well as the headset..

I was told here in mid Mi. that local radio shacks were going to discontinue stocking this product. This is what the sales told me, whether or not it was wrong info or not, i don't care.

I did opt out Terra on purchasing the headphones that was offered with the V ( thank goodness ) as I was sure there was an alternative..

Calling from Spain to every shop is probably more expensive than getting some high end headphones locally I'm afraid, but I really appreciate your suggestion.

Thanks

$49.97 at the Radio Shack here... Or was I just super lucky... Great video to show everyone.. Thanks a bunch.. Maybe with the sudden surge in sales Radio Shack will decide to re stock them.

Thanks Herb! Went to the Radioshack the day you posted and got me a pair. charged 'em up installed the batteries, and slipped on the adapter before they went in the carry bag that is included. followed up on your post and saw the modification to relocate...2 days later opened up the bag, amped to get out and try...damn plug was broke!! Exchanged thank goodness they had another pair I was panicked they would be out! I modded just like your post showed, been using the last 2 days, have about 7 hrs so far on one charge. Having to learn I can put the detector down! AWESOME Thanks for the information. Hope I can get back to get a backup pair! work great! the pin is only held with a tiny solder...you HAVE to mod. I used tub and tile silicon and held in place for 5hrs with duct tape...mod works great!

Needs to rain so you can think up more!

hi,

i got my arm moving a lttle after recent hand surgery so i checked out my new ebay buy
my new sentry ho900 look good, the headset is light and comfy
the transmitter is light but quite large...not thick , its just 0.5" thick but is as long and wide as the etrac screen
that will be ok for me, i am going to attach it behind the rear of the control pod or under the upper most shaft

the volume is very soft (too soft) on my etrac but are ok on my xterra
i suspect its because the headphone jack plug to transmitter wire has a double adapter with 2x rca plugs on it ...losing volume through all the connectors.:nerd::shrug:
i will go to jaycar my local electronics specialist retailer and get advice on buying a better cable with just the needed plugs on it and do away with the double adapter and the rca's if they are not needed

they feel look and sound great with no delay at all that i can tell
obviously i will have to use them only in fine weather
happy hunting

Nope...the new lead without a double adapter and rca plugs is no better
its still too soft on the etrac

not too technically minded
could it be something to do with frquencies or ohms ?

I wonder if an amplifyer would work ?

any ideas very welcome :)

Just picked up a pair of the 283's at Radio Shack ($49) and they seem to work great, and I can not identify any delay.

on the set up, I attached the transmitter to the top side of the built in stand on the e track handle with velcro tape, I bought a 90 degree 1/4 inch plug adapter to fit the E track.
To avoid having to get the additional plug adapter and the longer wire extension for the eighth inch to quarter inch conversion, Radio Shack does have a single piece combo wire and adapter, but their just happens to be 2 wires , not just one coming out of the adapter, but no big deal as i just tape the wires together. With 6" length, it lines up fine with out any dangling wires to get in the way
and there are not any long hard adapter connections to get snapped off. And to charge the sender unit I can just remove it from the detector because only using velcro to hold in place.

This set up avoided any long length adapter connections that protrude from the sender unit and I now have the 90 degree coming out of the e trac plug which is better than the Koss head phones that come with the e-trac. The head phones work great for me and though the ear muffs do not surround the entire ear, they are light weight enough that they are comfortable how they do sit on your ears. and not having the cable connection from headphone to detector is great.

anyway, so far I am very happy with the set up that all came in under $80.

I think the wireless headphones are fine, but not for me. When the weather is hot, it's nice
to take them off once in a while and when it's cold, it keeps my ears warm.
