Wireless headphones , modification and test results.

Who likes to be tethered to their detector? I always hated it. From the modification forum Tinfoil said the Radio Shack 33-1253 wireless headphone worked great.
Well I was sceptical because I had tried two different systems a couple of years ago. I bought a set of the 33-1253's. I am amazed! They work great. The speakers sound great. There is no lag in the signal. What a relief!
The modification came about when I plugged the transmitter in the detector. It just hung there all loose and twisty. I just couldn't stand it. So I took it apart and removed the swivel plug and wires. Removed the plug from the swivel and soldered longer wires to the circuit board. Added some shrink tube and it looks much better. It fits nicely right next to the control head.
It doesn't have to be modified to work. I just like to modify things to my liking.
I just finished it and swung it over my test garden in the dark. There is 2 inches of ice and about 5 inches of snow but the 250 beeped just fine!

You added weight with that control box kenny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's a no no!!!! LOL just kidding, I like that!! I am DEFINATELY gonna have to try that, how much do those headphones cost at radio shack?

You got me on the weight thing!!!! The transmitter weighs 1.1 oz. I just weighed 1/2 of my old headphone cord and it was 1.6 oz. So the wireless is lighter! They are $60.00 at the Shack. You won't be sorry in your purchase.

LOL, you know, while I was typing that, that is exactly what I was thinking!!!! I bet the cord weight will make up for it, if the coiled type. I figured I stuck my foot in my mouth lol. I may have to get me a set then. I actually went to the shack here other day and he didn't have any kind of wireless like that. I'll have to check back now that I saw a pic and have a number on them. It'll be awhile though, work is slow, I've spent all of my play money on the ace and the sniper last week. Thanks again!! You always come through.

I don't know how long the batteries last? I'll always have my corded phones with me. I know what your saying about work. Winter is always bad on me being in the remodeling field.

Battery Life: Reported to me by Shennandoah Digger that he gets 12 hours on his. Probably depends on the detector and how many beeps, etc. per hour.

If your RS doesn't have them, you can order online and have them sent to a local store without shipping charges.

One question: Do these have a volume control??

khouse..
Do you know if these will work on the Ace300? Any idea if the 300 works off the same freq. as the 250 and higher end garrets? I ordered another brand of wireless phones and cannot get them to work on my 300. Reports I read say this brand works on other garrets so I assume freq. is the problem. So far I have not found enough detailed info on line to tell me what freq. my 300 is.
Not a big deal though as I plan on upgrading soon anyway.
Would appreciate any comments you may have. Thanks....Al

Take your detector into radio shack and try them. They will take the phones back it it doesn't work.

I tested them in my office with plenty of interference. I have a cell phone and other wireless phones in here. They work fine so far. Radio Shack gives you 30 days to bring them back. You will know by then if they work for you.

Ralph,
That is a trigger pinpoint I added to my 250. It works just like the Whites detectors. You can see some pictures on this forum and the modifications forum.

I found some logitech ipod bluetooth earphones on ebay that look pretty cool. I don't see any reason they wouldn't work but who knows. They're alot cheaper than the radio shack ones too lol. I'll see if I can find some of them this weekend somewhere and see if I can try them out. If not, I'll check out those radio shack ones sometime when I get the cash!!! Oh yeah, khouse, they still working out good?

The logitechs use a 3.5mm jack and have an adapter for a smaller jack. I'm not sure how many mm's the 1/4 in. jack converts to lol. I'll prob just go with the ones khouse bought at rs. We already know they work good!! I'm still gonna look around though just in case.

One more question kenny, I read the reviews on the rs website, most good, some not, the biggest complaint was the volume. Is it plenty loud enough with the ace? Thanks, I'll try to let this be my last post on these today lol.

Yes, They are still working good. I just came in from detecting for 20 minutes. The ground is frozen here but managed 2 cents in my driveway. I need a pick! I have heard that the Logitec Bluetooth has a lag in the signal. I personally don't know if that's true. I read it on a forum somewhere. I would say as long as you can take them back it may be worth a try. Let us know......
