At beach this morning with the Deus2, a strong signal with a VDI of 49, a steady 49 from start to finish. On the 4th scoop I start to spread it out and see something shiny. I pick it up and just know its white gold, VDI 49, check, weight heavy, check, sound, awesome, check, I can see a hallmark and writing, check. But the only problem is I can't read the writing until I put on my glasses and what the heck, it said Stainless Steel, what kind of ring maker engraves a hallmark and stainless steel on a junk ring, why waste you time and money. As a comparison I have a 14k white gold ring I found recently. The pictures show that they look identical, but one is gold and the other is stainless. In addition, they both weigh 4.5 grams. Am I being picky or is a ring, is a ring, is a ring?

Its very unfortunate that nowadays most jewelry is crap. With the price of gold over 3k, gold jewelry has becomes unaffordable to most.
There are more important items to spend money on...rent, food, gas, phone, etc. So buying fake jewelry is the next best thing since its soo cheap
and looks good. There is a new process called ion plating. looks like real gold, doesnt corrode and cost a lot less. So who could resist buying
gold looking items cheap !!! Sorry to say, this is the new life of a metal detectorist. You need to find some old swimming holes to look for the real deal.
Recent drops 99/100 will be junk.

Sorry, your bubble was broken.

I am surprised both rings weighed the same… stainless steel is a relatively light metal
The stainless rings I have found are pretty light for the size of them.
The look, the weight, the sound, the VDI all screaming gold. Here is the weight comparison. I agree with you about the lightness of stainless steel usually you can tell when you first pick it up, my bubble was definitely broken.
