Why the MXT

The MXT is a great all around detector. The ones that you mentioned will have difficulty finding gold nuggets or gold chain. I have found gold and silver rings, old coins, and gold nuggets with mine. The learning curve is minimal with a 10 second turn on and dig. I even did better nugget shooting north of Rye Patch than a Minelab 4500. It will find small objects deep and is a fantastic buy at the price. It will find small nuggets deeper than the higher freq detectors like the GB2. I even found a 1/2 gran nugget (picker) at 3 inches. I have not used mine on a salt beach but found a diamond ring on a freshwater beach. Whatever detector you buy, practice, practice, practice....

Dito. The MXT is an EXCELLENT all around detector.
I have an Ace 250 and while it is a good little machine for the money my
MXT dances circles around it.

I did an experiment last year at a school recreation field.
I marked off about 20 x20 feet square next to their concession stand and hit the section really hard
with the Ace 250. I went one direction and crisscrossed the other direction.
I took about $10.00 in quarters, dimes and a few nickles. I tried to make sure
that I overlapped my swing so as not to miss anything.

I went back over the same 20x20 with the MXT and took out another $7.00.
Now what does that tell ya? I also cleaned out all the nickles the Ace missed.

That doesn't mean the Ace isn't any good. Remember, I cleaned out $10.00 the
first time around and made sure I covered all the ground in that 20x20 space.

Something else to consider is the the Ace 250 has factory presets. The ground
balance is preset at the factory so if you hit an area that has a lot of mineralization
your in for a tough ride. You'll more than likely miss alot and get false signals.

The MXT allows you to adjust your ground balance. There are also alot more coils
available for it. AND if your ever out in Arizona or some other area where gold hunting
is popular, you'll be set.

If you can afford to buy the MXT new then go for it or find a used one for sale.
One of the people here just picked one up used for $400.00.

Also Whites customer service is unbeatable.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Nice to hear about it's ability to find nuggets, small gold jewelry, etc.; didn't know that. Does the MXT have operator adjustable knobs for ground balance, sensitivity, sound, etc? I haven't even seen one.... no MD dealers in or near my area; remote small towns, etc. Anyone use their MXT on salt beaches.

Auto ground balance or null it out...your choice. Variable SAT for gold prospecting in mineralized ground, salt switch for detecting on salt beaches and variable gain and threshold. Since it operates at about 15KHz's it detects nuggets deeper than a GB2 (50kHz's) or other gold detectors with higher freq. For the money and then some, it is probably the best VLF out there for an all purpose machine. If you are going to be specific like just coin shooting in average ground then there are coin shooters available that are better for more money.

This was my first hunt with my MXT.

I've had mine for 8 plus years and it's still in tip top shape. And believe me, there's many hours on my machine. Many days in the past Larry and I would be out detecting for 12 hours at a time. I couldn't tell you how many times over and over the MXT has paid for itself. Just read the past posts. It's one heck of a good quality USA made machine! I wouldn't have any other. Thanks and good luck! Nancy

Thanks again guys, just one more question please. Is the 10DD a good general purpose coil for this machine, or would you recommend another?

If you're getting the 9.5 stock coil with the MXT, why not get a smaller coil for those trashy areas? My recommendation would be the 5.3 coil. It's a killer for pinpointing and a nice little coil all around. Great for small nuggets, plucking a coin out of the scrap jungle. JMHO, Nancy (one of the "gals")

I use an M6, same basic unit as the MXT and am sure you will be as happy with it as I am with mine. I'm in northern Indiana myself, what area are you?

Didn't like my MXT. I'm a coin hunter and I like the M6 best. It works well at the beach and is less expensive.

I'm a little southeast of Bedford. There is a lot of red clay and limestone in the area, and I have no idea how that relates to mineralization and detecting. Been around here most of my life and have never seen anyone MD'ing around here, not even in the city parks, schools, or ball fields. I found a MD seller on line at Seymour about an hour from me, but looks like he only has 3 or 4 detectors in stock total; more of an antique shop, I think. Kind of hard trying to decide on a purchase without seeing or holding any of these units. Guess I will have to take a trip to the big city, lol.

I saw some other posts saying the same thing about the M6 and was wondering about it.

Same here! I sold the MXT good machine but then decided to get the V3.

I'm buying the M6 as a back up (easy turn on and go machine)

When I have the patience ....those are the days I will use the V3.

But some days I want to just hunt .....Simple!

Kellyco.com is a good place to buy a MXT. The fellows recommending something else probably use the M6 as a coin hunter only. The M6 is not good for nugget shooting. The coil to get that is good for nugget shooting, relic hunting and coin hunting is the 6x10dd sometimes called the Eclipse. Once you learn the MXT, you will be reluctant to use any other detector.

Thanks. I am reading the manual on the MXT300 at the White's site and really like what I see. I first got turned on to this machine from youtube vids by chicagoron, he has 11 or 12 really good videos and is hauling in the old IH's and silver. He also found some museum quality gold artifacts in the UK with the MXT. BTW, very nice find of the gold nuggets, I'd like to have a pocket full of those, wow.

You probably will want a small coil like the 5.3 (6inches actually) for the trashy areas.
I use the 6x10DD quite a bit and resort to the 9.r coil for larger cleaner areas.
Good Luck

That's funny, you read my mind. Just logged on to ask for recommendations on coils. I have decided on the MXT and now need to focus on coils. I have read good things about the 10DD and am also curious about a 'butterfly' coil, whatever that is. I think Nancy also recommended the smaller coil for trashy areas. What is the difference between an MXT and the MXT300, just different coil package?

The MXT300 comes with the 12 inch coil. Thats the difference. The machine is the same.
Good luck

The difference of the MXT and the MXT 300 is the coil plus powder coat paint. That's all! HH, Nancy
