Why does Whites insist on using the lame 950 concentric.........

I wish they would just make the BigFOOT coil ! No other coil needed LOL

Loop option choices at retail is a great idea, however, falls way short in actual practice. Resellers don't like keeping so many options in stock. First time buyers don't like to make a choice. From the manufactures perspective its like buying a car without final top coat paint, doesn't make sense in that the manufacture's cost difference is negligible thus doesn't benefit the retail customer price. So best for everyone to make a standard equipment choice.

This is yet another instance where car dealerships really confuse reality. They list the automatic or manual transmission on a new car like its an option you can choose for that specific car. Try telling them you don't want either, you want to buy it without a transmission. Sure they will pull it, but don't expect any discount in price. If anything, an increase for pulling it. In other words they list it as "X" dollars for the automatic or "X" dollars for the manual, but try telling them deduct the listed price for the transmission and provide it without. If their honest they will tell you... you are gong to pay this price for this car, doesn't matter with or without a transmission, so you may as well take it with the transmission that is in it which will be good for most types of driving, but not all types of driving. Within the same hour, they will quote you thousands of dollars for a new transmission purchased separately.

.................coil towards the one I really want??? If I want to buy a MXT from Kellyco for example; but I want the 6X10 coil why is this not easy to do. Unplug the 950 plug in the 6x 10 and I pay the diff???? Not nearly as hard to do as changing a car transmission!!!!

If a retailer is willing to swap for options and adjust prices accordingly, great, that should happen from time to time negotiated between the retailer and the buyer at the time of purchase.

Raw materials must be purchased and planned many months in advance of build... unplanned / unknown production level options simply are not cost practical.

I know it sounds strange, however, once you factor in bulk raw material discounts, warehousing / inventory costs, Distribution, cheaper to give away a planned loop compared to selling an option. Thus "it cost "X" dollars with or without a loop". The economics of manufacturing are a lot more complicated than it appears.

..................it shows Whites is listening. Don't worry, despite my gripes Whites is still #1 with me. My first Whites was bought in 1974...... and even though I have tried other brands..........didn't take long to back to Whites!!! Home Sweet Home!!!!!

My area has a lot of hot rocks.I asked my dealer when i paid for my detector if i could swap the 950 for a 4X6 and he said OK.With my bonus bucks,i am getting the 6X10 coil. It is nice when you have an understanding dealer that will work with you.The coil swap was for equal value coils,so no money was gained or lost.BUT a simple thing like this, got this dealer a lifetime customer. Whites dealers are great !!!!!!

Now here is the best most balanced post I have seen so far on the subject! Makes all the sense in the world for great customer relations both from the dealers and the manufacturers standpoint.

Kind Regards,

It would also be nice if the damm thing did not float.......... BHID w /9.5 is a pain......

i'm also looking for a 950 coil.... if anyone wants to sell one.... my 600/di pro sl came with a disfunctional hot head coil......:nopity:

i am new here but i would like to add my 2 cents ,the 950 is a general use coil ,i find it to be ground covering ,deep and target accurate for pinpointing.it wil if you use it right seperate 2 targets in one hole, and it is never wrong on coin id's ,with the exeception of nickles and every coil has that problem.HH jim

Although it's not my favorite coil, I don't know that I would call it "lame". That said, it would be nice if the dealers could order detectors complete except for the coil and have a selection for the buyer to decide on. For most newbies it would probably be just as well if they start with a "stock" coil, but for the rest of us coil selection is a serious concern. My two cents.

I like the idea, but you've got to remember a lot of people new to detecting also buy. Someone new wouldn't really know what is best for them.

Isnt that a dealer is for ... to advise?
Isnt that why White's is pushing for local dealer sales only?

Mail order if fine for when you know exactly what you want and don't need a some advice.
Ideally, a newbie would buy from a local dealer that actually gets out and uses the detectors he sells and can start him off right.

Plus, the sideline dealers that dont stock detectors (they can order you one :lmfao:) wont be stocking any coils either.
