Why does Whites insist on using the lame 950 concentric.........

,,,,,,,coil as their stock coil???? Not great on beaches, lousy in trashy parks ( aren't they all) !! I'd like to see a detector manufacturer ( one with guts) to offer the basic detector with electronics and rod and leave the coil choice to the customer. Each customer could pick the coil they feel would best suit their needs. It ticks me off that I have to buy my MXT or M6 with the 950 coil which will be promptly shelved ( probably forever). I'd feel better about a manufacturer that wouldn't force me to buy a coil that is of no use, rotten way to sell other coils. Try selling a 950 coil on ebay...........no one would want it!!! How about it Whites, sell me the detector and I'll pick the coil...............anyone else agree or am I nuts????? Thanks for your input.

I for one like using the 9.5" coil. It's a good comprise size for the beach, and open field hunting. If I need a smaller coil, I just change it out as needed. There is no one do it all coil.

The 9.5" coil is hard to sell on EBay because most all Whites detectors come with them, and for the most part, no one needs them.

Speaking about that, I could use one if anyone wants to sell one. :)

With all of the choices for coils, the 950 works best for most people in most places. Many, users use nothing but the stock coil.....with great success.

It's a compromise like everything else. I use mine perhaps 20-30% of the time like when relic hunting, woods hunting, sports fields, and parks/schools that aren't real trashy. I also have a 8" and a 6" that I go to when the need arises. But the 9.5" is a pretty good "big" coil for my type of hunting. If I had to pick only one coil to use for the rest of my life, I'd pick the 8." Luckily, though, a quick field swap can give you just the right size to match conditions, and the 9.5" fits the bill for many situations. JMHO, FWIW. It sounds like that your type and/or style of hunting is just not the kind that the 9.5" is good for. Like Mr. Bill says, if you want to part with yours, I've been known to pick up an extra one or two....

........why not sell the detector only ,,,,,and let the customer choose the coil ???? That way everyone could get the coil they would really want. I would rather have the cost of the 950 coil deducted and put towards a 10" DD or the 6X 10 etc etc.

I like the idea, but you've got to remember a lot of people new to detecting also buy. Someone new wouldn't really know what is best for them.

I have the 4x6 DD shooter, the 6x10 Eclipse DD the stock 9.5 and the Super 12". I find I use the 6x10 for most of my hunting, but the 9.5 does it's share in the right conditions.

I agree it would be a great idea however the manufacturer would dissagree from a profit standpoint. How would they be able to sell you an aftermarket coil?
But ya that would be cool, more $ leftover for more goodies.

British dealers for years referred to it as "the air test coil". Which is what its very good for.
Some dealers such as the old "Midas Touch" dealership would offer to substitute third party Hot Head type coils. I assume this meant that Whites U.K. supplied the machine without the 950 or would accept them back from the dealer as he never seemed to be buried with stock coils.

So that Whites can sell you a smaller coil also. I read all the time where people get a brand new detector with a second coil. Good marketing I guess. But I also am a bicycle rider. All the high end bikes are sold with out the pedals. The mfg knows that their customers will want to put their own favorites on their new bike. But then again try to buy a new laptop with no operating system. I guess it depends on the product.

Look at the vast differences in the cost of the various coils - the cost of the detector would then have to change accordingly - the customer unhappy because they now have to pay more than the "advertised" price...

look at all the people who are paying for a coil they either don't want or need. You could advertise the cost of the "Body" alone. This is done in the camera industry and then you buy the lenses ....you want/need!! In my area I'm near Monte..... the stock coil doesn't cut it....so I'm forced to pay for a coil that is of very little use to me. I'd rather have that "cost" of the coil in the detector price.... removed so that I can get the coil I want/need!! Thus my cost would go down as I'm not forced to pay for any coil other than the ones I want.

Hey Guys,

I would like to see White's develop a coil that blows holes in the ground so I wouldn't have to dig all these finds I detecting with the V3. It gets
tiresome digging all these coins. Plus maybe White's can add a wheelbarrow to go with the coil so I can get the coins home.

I have always thought the MXT with the 6x10 stock would be the bomb.

Try googling "air spade." Now one of those would sure make digging easier.

That is a very popular combo on the MXT forum, especially for the nugget hunters.

Glad to hear that V3 is keeping you busy Bob.....
