Why are you sending your AT Pros in for service?

Ive had nothing but great service from GARRETT.!!! Here is my thought. If you dont like the unit(ATP)...sell it to someone who will.! Or buy a $1500.00 unit....almost 3 times the cost of the AT Pro. and still have service issue at times......AND THEN TRY TO GET THE OTHER COMPANY TO SERVICE that PRODUCT.......LOL ive been there..done that. Garrett has unmatched customer service!!!!

All the people who have had numerous problems have a right to complain but not about Garrett service in helping resolve them. It makes me wonder if Whites or Fisher took the same approach with a waterproof all around unit and had the same issues if you'd hear the same trash talk about them? And they both have had many issues that required the units to be repaired or updated and mostly at your cost. Buying a machine at twice the price only to have repairs hidden by the words "upgrades" is just as costly and frustrating. Salt water is evil period. I bought a car that was exposed to salt water through just being parked near the ocean and all the electrical plugs were all corroded. I've had to send back both the other two major brands a few times and each time I waited over a month and a half to get them returned and had to pay for the repairs. One time I was told that I damaged the machines! I know that I would be upset but Garrett will take care of any issues quicker and better than all the other major brands, period. HH, Woodstock

It's ok..

We're all Garrett folks here. I'm sure the reason that some folks are so upset is because we've all come to rely on Garrett detectors being so darned reliable in the first place. I'm sure we all know that they will get the kinks out eventually, but for those having to interrupt their hobby multiple times by having to send their units back, paying postage over and over, I can see how it can be quite frustrating, even with Garrett's fast and responsive customer service. Even back in the 80s, Garrett would routinely send replacement stickers and once when I contacted them and just mentioned on the side that the paint chipped from the housing of my Deepseeker, they actually sent me a small bottle of Garrett Green paint with their compliments.

As for the AT Pro, there doesn't seem to be many complaints about its performance on land, other than it falls over easily. As for water, that's where most of the concerns are coming from. To me, anyway, stating that a product is good to an underwater depth of 10 feet says that their confidence in it being waterproof isn't that great. On the other hand, it seems there are several opportunities for human error... the connectors at the coil, headphones and battery compartment which can leak if not tightened properly. I wonder how many of the issues people have had were because of connections not tightened properly, or sheared or damaged o-rings?

I'm still going to give it a shot and hope for the best, I think. I won't be doing that much water hunting anyway, and I'm intrigued by the numerical GDI.

Heras,

"I think the water gets trough the screen"

Yes, and/or the buttons on the control box panel.

I think a cover for the control box might help, just keep the water level a little under the box.

View the AT-Pro as water resistant only and you may be OK.

Good Hunting

My Pro mode became erratic then stopped detecting metal all together on my first repair. This second time it took water in through the screen. I checked the battery compartment and connectors after it died in a freshwater lake and not a drop in any of them, after close inspection I noticed a few drops under the screen panel so I'm assuming it's that gasket that fails. I've only submerged the coil in saltwater and it didn't like it at all lol, very erratic in the surf but that's the nature of a single frequency detector, they aren't made for salt environments. I only got in 7 freshwater hunts before it died...

Garrett does have the best customer service though, very friendly, quick repairs and return shipping and they covered my shipping this second time around by sending a UPS call tag, guy picked it up today in fact.

yeah i think the problem is the plastic cover of the screen. Im gonna make that water bomb tsunami proof. Garrett is sending me a new detector. Cant wait to detect again. Argggg!

Plain and simple these units should NOT be failing after going in the water...they claim to be waterproof and thus should be. Its one thing to have service issues once in a while...but these individuals that are one after another having to be sent back..and at THEIR cost of shipping it back...I don't think so! So far my "unmatched" service is exactly that....they did not match the extrodinary service of another manufacture that immediately 2 day mailed me out a brand new unit, included a pre-paid postage tag...AND threw in an extra rechargable battery pack on top. That my friend is Service and that is what I judge all others against. I do in think that kept out of the water it IS a great machine...I simply think that somehow the enclosure needs to be sealed better. Garrett could ROCK the world with this product and I personally want to see this happen. If it could prove itself reliable in the water I would buy a second one for my wife...but for now I have to wait and see. I think that posting problems should be allowed...not bad mouthing but information is knowledge...I know, I know, it could hurt that sales of the unit...but if problems are not fixed it could lead to much worse say legal issues for the company. For some people $600 is alot of money and they have to save their hard earned money for awhile to make the purchase. I don't believe in brand loyalty...I believe in product reliability! Simply put...fix the waterproof problem or change it from waterproof to water-resistant...works great for rainy day detecting!!

I have had mine just a little over a week now, and the only problem I am having is needing a larger digging tool to find the deep targets! I spoke with the guys at kellyco and garrett before I purchased, to make sure that they had solved the big problems, and they both assured me that they had. As far as moisture getting into the unit, I suspect that could easily happen if the o-rings get pinched a little when you connect the coil or headphones. I don't water hunt, so I don't think I'll have to worry about that. Maybe they really did get all of their bugs worked out!

I'm here if you have ANY problems! But last I heard they are good to go. And everyone here is right. Garrett REALLY stands behind their product and you know Kellyco does :)
Thank you for your business!

That's good, they are two totally different machines. The AT Pro is an all terrain multi-purpose unit that's not met for light water use and the SH II is a PI that weighs a ton more and is good down to 200ft, not 10 feet or less like the AT Pro. Happy Trails up there in Nova land! Woodstock
