Why are Whites detectors so heavy..............

I really like my XL Pro w/5.3 Bullseye coil... Well balanced and weight has been proportioned & can hunt just about all day without arm fatigue. I'm 56 years old and I work out with weights in the winter months to build up arm and shoulder strength.

The old 5000 and 6000/D's were a bit heavy (blue metal box) that was the nature of the beast.

I bought this spring a shoulder harness (non-Whites) where you can attach the detector to it. ...Pretty nice set-up. Makes the detector very very light. Will probably use it in the future.

I think the black box newer metal box units are balanced perfect. The XL-Pro to me swung a lot easier than the my E-trac or CZ-3D. I hope they never get rid of the metal box as that is what makes it a Whites in my eye's.

I'm with you Harold!----The metal boxes is what makes a Whites a Whites!----Also, they actually got the headphone jack in the back on them where it should be.  quote=Harold,ILL.] a lot easier than the my E-trac or CZ-3D. I hope they never get rid of the metal box as that is what makes it a Whites in my eye's.[/quote]

The M6 with a 6X8 SEF feels nice and balanced to me . It's my go to now . Anything heavier I can only do a couple of hrs. on at the most , It must be because I am presently the oldest I have ever been .

I don't think the White's "SL" metal box detectors are heavy at all. They are really well balanced which is very important and reflects thoughtful design. Back when they first came out in the early 90's, they were by far the lightest on the market and everyone complimented White's on having such a light detector. Since then other manufacturers have come out with lighter models while White's have stayed the same (a *good* thing, by the way). Have we become lazy and soft over the years that what were once the lightest on the market have now become the "heaviest?";)

Notice too that the light detectors of today are all made out of cheapie plastic.

White's detectors may be comparatively heavy nowadays, but not excessively so, and really only takes a day or so of swinging before your muscles get used to the extra weight and you never notice it after that.

White's don't change a thing!
