Who's the Etrac jewelry pro???

The ET is a great detector with my 8x6 SEF coil, I've dug my share of jewelry but I dig lots of junk also as I only discriminate iron but I spend a lot of time in one small 10x10 area and that's where the ET is lethal. Go very very slow and you'll get your just rewards. Happy Hunting

If it helps any, I scanned 121 gold rings with the E-trac. These are rings I found with my Excalibur. I then categorized them by CO ranges in order to minimize the number of pull tabs I dig, yet maintain good odds on gold rings. Below is the result. THEORETICALLY speaking, you should be able to find 82% of gold rings by ignoring the 18 thru 26 pull tab range....those are pretty good odds.

Hope this helps.

All rings at 12 ferrous
CO Ranges
02-06 40.5%
07-11 15.7%
12-16 11.6%
17-21 11.6%
22-26 9.9%
27-31 3.3%
32-36 5.8%
37-43 1.7%
Total 100.0%

CO Hot Ranges
02-17 71.1%
18-26 18.2%
27-43 10.7%
Total 100.0%

Well I know this isn't a popular notion for the dedicated E-Trac'er but it has been my experience the E-Trac, like most FBS's isn't the greatest gold detector. Coins and normal sized gold rings it does OK, but it does lack ability on chains, earrings and pendents. For jewelry hunting I stick with my DFX which I believe is one of the best detectors at telling junk from gold. For me it is all in the sound and numbers. Gold on the DFX will not break up, sound wise, and maintain a uniform target ID. Unlike 90% of the trash.

Sorry, and with due Respect, but I found three 14K rings with my ET in one year and did not find any Gold with my DFX in two years

Very good points Southwind. Yes, while being good for bigger gold rings, all FBS and BBS machines are not good on very tiny thin gold rings, stud gold earrings, and thin gold chains. Minelab even explained to me the Sovereign GT was not good to look for very small gold nuggets.

Another point is if a person goes by tone all of the time and/or does not want to follow the E-Trac's 2 number system because it might lead to missing gold jewelry disguising as aluminum, then buy the less expensive single number Safari(for about -$550 less) instead as that is all you need.

A new Safari is the cheapest FBS-BBS detector available. I saw the price list at a dealers website and a new Safari was even less expensive(about -$50) than a new Sovereign GT.
