Who's the Etrac jewelry pro???

BLRRLB

New member
I've noticed every forum has one guy that excels in finding jewelry..who am i looking for in Etrac forum? i currently use Garretts but looking to buy a Etrac..sooo, who is the person/people with the best/most gold and silver jewelry finds??? when I get my Etrac, i hope to KILL the jewelry around my local parks, sporting complexs, and most of all beaches!!!

Thanks,
Brandon

I wouldn't say I'm the man, but I've had good success the last 2 years using the E-Trac. I really like the E-Trac with either the Sunray 5.5 coil or the 6" excelerator coil. Either is very sensitive, deep with great seperation. Most of my finds are shallow in the parks, the deepest find maybe 7 or 8". I hunt with it set to eliminate iron and that's all. I dig plenty of pulltabs and plenty of screw caps. Also be sure to dig pennies.I have been pleasantly surprised to find a nice platinum ring with a pulltab reading and a nice gold band with a penny reading last year. I find plenty of silver jewelry in the penny and quarter readings. There is no short cut. You can experiment, but you ultimately decide what jewelry you want to leave in the ground by your discrimination settings. I have tried the beaches with the E-Trac, but so far no luck on either salt or freshwater beaches, I highly recommend Clive Clynick's book Site Reading for Gold and Silver and Andy Sabisch's book The Minelab Explorer & E-Trac Handbook. They are both excellent and very informative. When hunting parks check around benches. They have produced a fair amount of rings for me.Good Luck!

My husband and I both have had ET's for the past 2 years

We found a bunch of Rings in parks and schools
About 50/50 for Silver and costume

Just this past Autumn I found three 14k Gold Rings in a month period in the same old park

The numbers were 12/13-17/18, which is pull tab range

I would say the the Beach Forum boasts the most Jewelry Finds and worth a look

Good Luck and HH

Thanks banditcey!!! hoping to get a Etrac soon!! if any one person sticks out in this forum for jewelry finds, let me know..i want to hear from all!!!

Finding gold jewelry with any detector only takes 3 things. Get the coil over it, hear the tone and dig. General purpose metal detector technology really hasn't improved that much over the years when it comes to finding gold. True, discrimination on general purpose detectors has improved but there are no magical numbers or tones that will be displayed or heard when your coil comes over the top of gold. Gold usually reponds just like a pull tab a lot of the time. So, in order to find gold one will dig a lot of pull tabs. There are no trade secrets that I know of. A dectorist can maybe put the odds in their favor to finding gold like detecting in areas where gold is worn and removed/lost-beaches, sports areas, swimming holes etc. If you'll read through a lot of the historical posts on this forum you will see this is so.
Finding silver jewelry is another issue. The etrac is a silver killer (vacuum cleaner)-shallow or deep. There's no other brand detector that I know of that can compete in finding silver in the different types of soil and iron infested areas. The etrac is remarkable in holding its conductive identification number even when faced with a deep silver rings or coins. The e-trac can literally make you look like a professional detectorist in only a few months when compared to years on other brands of machines. There really aren't that many settings that needs to be changed once you get the hang of using one in the different kinds of environments. A lot of silver coins and jewelry can be actually found like this-the phone rings and you answer/dig. I know you may think the next statement is a bit extreme but here goes. If the etrac would have come out back in the 70's there wouldn't be much silver to be found today inside of 10 inches in this country. And if minelab comes out with a better silver machine than the etrac; silver jewelry/coins will be in extreme short supply in the ground very soon in this country. Good luck in your quest for gold and please take your pull tabs with you when you dig them, that way when I come behind you, I won't detect them maybe I then will be the one to find the gold lol.

Still looking for the Etrac user who is considered JEWELRY KING!!!!!

BLRRLB I don't care what type of MDer you use. The key to finding gold rings is to dig EVERYTHING that beeps, from a penny down to foil. If you skip over just one trash target then that one might of been a gold ring. I like sports fields the best because I don't have much for beaches in IA, lol. also some school play grounds can be good and I'm not talking about just the woodchip areas, the whole playground. good luck and have fun

I agree with Mark. I am a professional recovery expert for insurance companies and you have to dig everything in the foil range to recover jewelry. You will not find a "Jewelry Guru" out there because there simply is no such thing. The closest you will find to a jewelry guru is finding the person that digs the most pull tabs, can slaw and nickels. If you find that guy/girl, you will probably have found the person that finds the most jewelry. Also, forget discrimination. If you try to set up a fancy "jewelry" disc pattern, you are going to miss a lot. For jewelry specifically, I would run a wide open screen and learn what the machine is telling you. Its going to take you a while. It took me about a year of regular hunting before I KNEW what my machine was telling me. You will learn faster than that but I would say it generally takes a solid year before someone is really able to solidly push their machine to the limits. Another thought would be to bury a bunch of targets in a personal test garden and train your ears to what you are looking for. Bury targets at different angles as well if your going to do this. I have a solid test garden full of stuff and it is one of the best things you can do to train your ears. As for my recoveries, I recover hundreds of jewelry items for insurance companies every year and I also recover hundreds more in my spare time. There are plenty of relic, coin and whatsit gurus on this forum, but as for jewelry, your just going to have to dig a zillion pieces of trash and get lucky along the way with "keepers." good luck and HH -Marc

Im no expert either but I do pretty well considering I have only had my etrac for about 3 or 4 months. I have found 2 silver rings and two gold rings so far since the first of the year. I found the two gold rings with a heavy disc pattern I use for cherry picking gold. One silver ring was found in a tiny park that I hunted with no disc, and the other silver was found with a trashy park pattern. I have hunted a total of about 6 hours since the first of the year, I dig way less trash than with any detector I have ever had. I still get fooled with the tail of a beaver tail pull tab and a few other foil balls and such. The Etrac is still the best jewelry detector I have ever had. I seldom use a pinpointer any more because the depth and pinpoint method I use is very accurate. Idigid

Most people find less gold jewelry when they use their E-Trac. Mostly because you get lazy, and stop digging all those 1 in 1000 pulltab to Gold ring signals, and just dig the likely coin signals, 12-13, 12-36, 12-41 through 12-47. Probably a lot of people only dig 12-44 through 12-47!

A DFX user told me that it has AC and DC readings and he looks at the ratio of the two, and can greatly increase his odds of not digging as many pulltabs, and still find gold. Is this true? I think it and the V3i and the DFX both have some kind of graph that helps too. Sure you are probably going to miss some gold, but I would play the odds whichever way got more desired targets for your time.

If I were really concerned with finding gold jewlery, I would probably consider those two detectors. I will download the DFX manual and let try to post more accurate information.

I am the jewelry king when it comes to buying. Some call me King Midas. Haven't refined my gold detecting yet!!! Still working on that one. HH

I have been intentionally digging lots less targets this year forcing myself to learn how to tell the difference between gold and pull tabs or can slaw. If the co and fe numbers both move either up or down most likely it is not Gold. I have dug about 50 bucks worth of coins, 6 or 8 keys, almost 3 bucks worth of nickles, and two gold rings and only about 30 pull tabs or foil circles off of plastic drink bottles. I also dug up a few foil balls and a few odd aluminum pieces. The There is a lot of people who hunt for old coins only and never dig anything near the gold range. I am hoping to do a little traveling to some small towns and find some old coins soon. Idigid

Well I know this isn't a popular notion for the dedicated E-Trac'er but it has been my experience the E-Trac, like most FBS's isn't the greatest gold detector. Coins and normal sized gold rings it does OK, but it does lack ability on chains, earrings and pendents. For jewelry hunting I stick with my DFX which I believe is one of the best detectors at telling junk from gold. For me it is all in the sound and numbers. Gold on the DFX will not break up, sound wise, and maintain a uniform target ID. Unlike 90% of the trash.

I don't know if I am a pro, and would not consider myself that.......Just enjoy detecting.

But if you have Andy's book, you can find my information on page's 74,75 and 133.

I have been enjoying the Minelab Etrac since it's release. Before that I came up through the Explorer's starting 1999(w/proto-type).

From Andy.

Well I hope this helps . . .. Minelab FBS detectors are super detectors for the deep targets others tend to pass up and the worse the ground gets the better it does in comparison. Unfortunately, the circuit does not do well detecting small mid-to-low conductive targets. The BBS detectors (Sovereign and Excalibur) have the same issue; i.e., great depth on a ring but in terms of earrings, chains, charms and the like, there are many models at far less money that do a better job. Going with a smaller coil - 8" or smaller - will help in high trash but will not improve teh sensitivity to small pieces of gold that you are looking for. When I hit tit lots, I tend to use either an Ace 350 or A Teknetics 8000 , , , my son uses a Tesoro Silver uMax - all three of which will detect targets far smaller (but not as deep) as the Minelab;s will.

Unfortunately there is no one detector that will do it all and this is one example - I have had people ask me if the Explorer or E-Trac would be a good gold prospecting detector and I have told them that as long as the only thing they were looking for were larger nuggets yes, but if you wanted grain sized pieces, a gold detector was the only way to go (and for half the cost)

Hope this helps - feel free to give me a call if you have any more questions at XXX-XXXX-XXXX

Hi Andy,

I've asked this many times on several boards but never seem to get an answer. I'm hoping you might have some input.

Right now I use my E-Trac mainly for hunting our city park where the coins are extremely deep. I use the AT Pro for hunting my tot lots because it does very well on smaller gold. I'd love to eliminate having to switch between the two if possible, but my testing has shown the E-Trac does fine on larger gold rings and such, it doesn't do well on smaller earring, pendents and chains. My question has been about using a smaller coil on the E-Trac and if it improves performance on smaller gold. I know it does on my DFX and the Tesoros I have had.

I've got a video on youtube comparing the E-Trac to the AT Pro and DFX on some fair sized gold where it fails terribly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5IzyhvtOd4

Thanks
