Who here hunts alone?

Years ago, I knew a woman who walked into Wal-Mart with two visible side arms on and was shopping. They tried to tell her to leave and she could not wear her guns but she told them to pack sand and finished her shopping. By Law, her Iron was visible and they could not do a thing about it.

Not quite true as she was on private property, and many businesses can, and do prohibit firearms on their property. She was lucky she wasn't escorted from the property via the local PD.....or worse, as happened recently in a Costco store.

Not trying to turn this thread into a 2nd Amendment thread (which I fully support), just letting someone else who may attempt the same thing that it may not be the best thing to do.

I now live in W.V. and I don't sweat it. I detect when I can, where I can with out worry. I don't even know anyone else around here that MD.

I grew up in the slums in many cities. When I MD in bad areas, I go at day break. Most trouble maker are in bed by than. I have never had any problems. Being a big guy helps some.

My home away from home No snakes, no bears and no wolves. ( and no gold ) Side arms, Wow! that heavy, I must be on another planet. Its hard enough keeping control of the hypnotic sound in my trusty TDI without having to look over my shoulder all the time. This raises a very good question. Who has a tale of a detectorist whom has been bashed or attacked while worshiping the coil?
Good hunting.

I almost always hunt alone. It doesn't even enter my mind that a bad guy or animal could be around here in ND. But it would be a concern in some of the big cities in other states.

Boy, talk about some great photos. Hats off to Earthsea. And, I Guess it's just where in the food chain you envision yourself, that determines your defense posture. I'm sure in N.D. you have lots better options than I have in Ca. We are watching our state being taken over by groups of belly draggers that think us Whites owe 'em, with the blessing of the left. All I'm saying is just take care and watch your back if you live in an area where thats appropriate. If you live somewhere else, do it anyway, It'll be coming to you soon. :surrender:

Bet this won't be posted long!

I almost always hunt alone. In town, I never wear earphones so I can hear anyone nearby. I try to remember to place my detector just off to the side and in front of me while I dig. I keep my digging tool sharp and carry a can of pepper spray. A few weeks ago I was prospecting in the mountains and ran into a bear. He looked fat, happy and harmless, but it did creep me out a bit. I had bear spray but didn't use it.

When alone I worry less about people and critters than I do about getting hurt or having medical difficulties.

First week of u.s.m.c. boot camp they taught us "SOMEONE IS ALWAYS WATCHING".

Living in a smaal town like kelso i haven't even seen but one guy with a detector and only saw him once. very leary of going to real small town parks or playgrounds. caught one guy on a bike pedaling into the parking area. as soon as i started for my truck he left. there's a very large meth problem in this area. for now all i have are my sharp witts and my leche.

Hey Widebody, I live just down the road in Ridgefield, I hunt alone, but have had good experiences with the people here. Mostly curious. If you want to hunt together sometime, email me.

I'll sometimes coinshoot in the "bad part of town" hey, that's where the 120 year old neighborhoods are! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one concerned with predators. Most people are friendly and curious, but theirs always a bozo in any bunch. You can have my Deleon when you pry it from my cold dead fingers!
