Whites PI o-ring ?

I'd like to hear the opinions/experiences of anyone familiar with the Surfmaster PI. I have the old style black o-ring and have to use the machine before I can get the newer red one. I ordered one but they delivered the wrong gasket and the backup is not arriving before i need it. ( No dealers in my area ) My question: is it safe to use the machine with this gasket ? It appears to be in good shape and I have purchased some waterproof grease ( for plumbing ). If I coat the o-ring with it can I be relatively sure that it will be watertight ? I've read about the problems encountered in the past with the older style black one and don't want to fry the machine. Any tips or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

Diving is one thing and wading is another.

Wading is less likely to cause you problems, but there is still a risk factor.

As a plumber who uses conventional "O" rings I have learned that it is better to work the lubricant into the seal with a dab on your fingers and then wipe off the excess than to glop the lube on and hope for the best.

Carefully cleaning all mating surfaces is a must! The new seal is treated the same way unless otherwise directed!

The decision is yours.

Good luck,

CJ

Thanks for the technique tip Cupajo. I'll do just that if I have to use the machine.

You could also submerge it in fresh water without batteries in it as a test, that way if water does get in any damage will be minimal and should only need drying out thorouly before use. better than it leaking and spoiling your day and detector too.
