Whites PI 1000

I haven't used my whites PI 1000 for several years. I recently checked it out again, put in new batteries...it works BUT it really has no sensitivity or depth at all. You have to be right over the objet for it to respond Any ideas?

If it is a White's PI Treasure Master 1000, It should hit about 12 inchs on a nice large ring. Did you ground balance it? Turn the switch to battery check, you should hear pulse in the HP's, and the green lite will glow. .....then......... Turn the knob to tune, lower coil to the beach/sand and hold it there for about 30 seconds, then ...........clockwise turn the knob to on/operate. If it acts erratic anytime just reground balance it, start at the beginning, and during ground balancing raise and lower the coil to the surface. That detector is at least 20 years old, I had one in 89 , used it one summer. In it's day, it was the best, and one of the first water detectors out there..Good Luck..joe

Listen to Joe, he knows his Pulse detectors.. If the coil cover is clean on the inside you might want a new detector or send this one in, but the money could be better spend on a new one.

Whites doesn't repair them anymore...any ideas as to where to send it in? I did listen to Joe's instructions...I'm not a amature I've been "beeping" since the 1981.

Wow MT, One that old is going to be hard to find parts for, you may want to try www.brokendetector.com/ East Texas metal Detectors Gilmer Texas 903.734.7773 I think their still around they repair white's. All I can say on the TM 1000, recheck the Batteries & connections, check the cable for dryrot, cracking from setting, and this can be very hard to see. Sandman is right on you may want to look for another detector because the money could be better spend on a new one, I would call, see what they say..then go from there....good luck..........joe/obn
