Good points Monte, as always. I can understand Whites' focus to cover the market as thoroughly as possible. As for a low-mid level detector, I'm sure the GT will fill the niche.
Actully, I think the minds that worked on that decision and MSRP almost out-did themselves! For what it is and what it offers, the CoinGT is going to reflect some impressive sales in the coming year. That's my prediction, and it is also based on the fact that I have a hand on the pulse of many hobbyists and they just can't afford, or even want, a more featured, higher-dollar model.

My way of thinking is that for $400 I would purchase a used MXT. It's a solid all around detector and excellent with the 5.3 shooter coil.
Yes, a used MXT can be had for about the suggested retail of the CoinGT. But, that's a USED MXT. I am sure that in the future there will be a IUSED CoinGT for a bargain used price.
Also, there are things that the 'standard' MXT has that the CoinGT doesn't, but I moved on to the MXT Pro, and have sold only MXT Pro's. I haven't been asked about a 'standard' MXT, and don't even have one in my inventory. The MXT Pro adds Tone ID and Back-light over the MXT, and these are two features on the CoinGT.

On a side note, the Vx3 is my go to machine for dirt huntin'. I think Whites did an awesome job with the Spectra series.. I was hoping for an updated version including some common suggestions such as water resistance, reverse modulation, etc.... Time will tell!
I really enjoy my VX3 for 'cruising' or, as you say, "dirt huntin'". I don't enjoy being wet, but living here in NW Oregon we do get our share of it come fall and winter. I try to stay out of the rain, but when it catches me, I haven't had any troubles with ANY of my Whites detectors.
Adding some new features would also likely bump the suggested retail; up and, with today's economy, and the way it's been for a few years, lower-to-mid priced detectors have the greatest draw. A serious 'plus' to the CoinGT's entry.
