White's D F question

Just had my P I for a week or so only been out one time because of work. NO days off for 3 weeks now. I was wondering when making the Pulse Delay adjustments do I need to have the coil moving. when I bench test it does not seam to make much difference in the threshold. but I have my machine on the table and move coins, rings , nails by the coil. Thanks for any help. Jerry

Don't bother bench testing a PI its a waste of time... you don't have the halo effect you do in the water... nails/bobbiepins/wire have a broken scratchy tone... the DF is a 1 tone machine but with use you will be able to discriminate by ear... iron is a wide long tone (wide) you want to pay attention for the deepest whispers they are a in threshold break... I don't use alot of pulse delay because the more you use the more you lose... I use it at the preset 6 pm or turned slightly to 7 pm to smooth out the threshold when I run the gain wide open...

so if i leave it where it is that's best? don't touch it from the button pointing to the arrow? how its clicked in if i unclick it then its not preset, just trying to get an idea where best to run this nob.

cheers and thanks

When you turn the pulse delay out of the factory setting you are incresing the pulse delay but the more you turn it the more you can lose... turn it too much and you will start to losr small deep gold... the furthest I turn mine is just off factory at 7pm... I use it to smooth out the threshold when I run my gain at 3 o'clock...

Some seem to think so... its alot chattery though so you need to use a pulse delay to cut it down a bit... I have always run all my beach machines wide open...

thanks Craig

i have been wide open too!! just as much chatter as i can handle getting used to it i think!

it loves bobby pins this machine :goodnight:

What PI doesn't? If you listen to the tone though if you get a double blip or a scratchy tone you could be over a nail, piece of wire or bobbiepin... you have a PI to listen for the deepest targets and its a great machine for that... stop looking around at the women on the beach and pay attention to the threshold ;)

Whoa!! Wait a minute!!

Don't look at the girls????:biteme:

I really enjoy metal detecting, but not that much!!!:ranting:

Nothing else exists on the beach besides the detector when I am hunting... do invite me to your favorite beach

Everyone has their favorites... check out RTG scoops or Sunspot... I myself use a custom scoop made by B.Babbs... its larger than his stock scoop... I wanted something light but strong and I have had great success with his scoops... its aluminum with a stainless lip...

yes its interesting this scoop thing i only want it for in the water! i like my little spade for the dry sand or where there's no water and i have to go up there :clapping: its in my blood, so i don't want to look like a pack horse carting to much stuff around that's not good :surrender:.

oh well i will come up with something will check out your suggestions thanks !!

your quite welcome to come with me Craig i sure would like the pointers long way away but :ausflag:

I don't think I would be interested in hunting where Great Whites cruise around ;)

here is a couple pictures of the scoop I had made... the one on the right I have had for 6 years before I had the one on the left custom made I wanted a scoop that was big but light...

Craig

no whites here waters to warm they are in south Australia chewing on seals i was out in my 15.5 foot boat out in the ocean catching snapper and this thing came up like a submarine we looked at each other and went back down like a submarine did i say it was as long as my boat and with those big stripes on him one big tiger shark i was about 2 -3 miles out to sea so they are around and am so glad he was nice to me it sure was an experience i will never forget and round wow how round was it.
no one gets taken on the beaches the whites get the odd surfer in SA but not around here.

i tried to buy one of the person you suggested but no go to much for postage, there's only one place i can find here that makes them, are the handles on yours at right angles or no? any chance of a profile view so i can see the angle of the handle looks like i might have to make my own.

seems there's not much need for them here :rage: spent all night looking will post this link don't know if i am allowed but will put it up see what you recon? i just don't want to buy something that's no good and have wasted $200 i guess its one of these 2 or make my own.

i found a ring today cant make out the marks but its silver in colour and has a dark blue stone will try work out what the marks mean,

i am buggered bit day swinging :detecting:

ps i got 2 books from clive today look forward to reading them.

amberjack if your in oz I bought my scoop off "oz scoops" and I highly recomend them ....I have the DF aswell and I bought the large Stainless steal scoop model number LHOZ its very well made and with the DF you definitely need the bigger scoop to digout the deep targets quickly...heres the link http://ozscoop.com.au/

Happy hunting mate

Cheers GONGA for the feedback on the scoop will get one asap so i can get in the water for a look see!
thanks mate!
how you find the DF had it long?

AJ

I,ve had my DF for about 6 months and been using it once a week on the local beaches on the south coast.I have a few other detectors but nothing beats the DF.At first it sounds chattery and you think theres something wrong with but thats not the case. When you get used to it and it does take a few outings you wont use another detector...it is very sensitive to small things,it will pickup things that other detectors wont even dream of seeing. You just have to know your settings...I can tell you that if you are around the NSW coast most beaches you shouldnt have to touch the pulse setting at all its really useless and there is no point in using it...Dont swing fast you will miss targets ,so go at a medium pace swing low to the sand as possible, crank it up untill you hear the threshold slightly and with bit of chatter .Use the edge of the coil to pinpoint .I assure you you will be digging up what others are leaving behind.
After a few outings I realized that the big scoop is must with this thing you will find lots of earrings and if your lucky some rings...I found a one cent coin the other day on a beach where detectorist operate nearly everyday and although its not worth much but it was very deep so you have the peace of mind that you not missing targets if there there....Good luck with it and happy hunting
