Here's the situation.... dry sand beach hunting with no to low mineralized sand. Your looking hopefully for gold items (mainly gold rings) which should I use??? And what's your opinion? Should I grab a Whites P I Pro Pulse or the Fisher CZ5 with the 10 1/2" coil and set it to the lowest disc setting, or maybe no disc at all just all metals.....help me out on this one. Thanks.
 
Hi John, I cannot relate to the Whites P I Pro Pulse, but I do use the cz 70. I do not disc. any metals (full across the board). I do use the 10 1/2 inch coil to cover more area. I would try to get down to the wet sand as much as possible. In the summer, get down from the high water mark and hunt as far as you can in the water. Everyone will have their own opinion, but if you will take a little from everyone and combine it with your knowledge, you will see results. Every day is a learning expirence. Good Luck. I keep picking us tips from Seaweed, Max, Ghost Team, and the list goes on..... Look at the posted photos on this web site and learn where we are finding the gold. There is not many days that we come home empty handed.

Well i use a Surfmaster P.I on the beach, in the surf, and a t my local freshwater beaches and i would not trade my pulse detector for nothing in this world, at the salt water beaches this pulse detector goes really deep, i find coins at depths from 0" to 20" and larger objects like sinkers 3oz
up to 3 feet... with a lot of digging.. the white's P.I is a super nice , just turn on and go, Dig all Dectector, if ease of use and good finds is what your looking for , then give the White's P.I a Chance.. you won't be sorry... you won't have to keep ajusting the settings like on most of these detectors.... just turn on an go...... happy hunting.

if you come to eastern NC beaches with a whites pulse bring at least 2 or 3 shovels because you will wear them out on iron signals. To each his own...I use the Explorer xs and LG the Sov. Elite set to disc out iron, dig everything else.
Gold rings: Sometimes LG brings home the bacon and I get the possum, then tomorrow the rolls are reversed. Only difference I can make out is the Elite reads targets off to the side of the coil and the Explorer goes deeper.
As Danny said we all learn something new each time we detect or read a post....and there is no question you or me could ask that is stupid and we use the answer for educational purposes.

BUT U ONLY NEED TO CONSIDER THREE OPTIONS ALL COVERED BELOW BY ALL MY GOOD FRIENDS.
STICK WITH FISHER, MINELABS................THE SURF PI PRO IS A GREAT MACHINE IN IT PLACE AND THAT IS NOT THE DRY SAND

B U T, I F U THINK U ARE NOT COMING TO THE REAL GOLD AND STAY IN THE DRY STUFF..............GARRETT MAKES SOME NICE NEW MACHINES THAT ARE NOT OVERLY EXPENSIVE AND WILL WORK GREAT IN THE DRY

Hey Ghost Team! Why do you use the MD's that you do? I have been looking at your finds for some time now, and you two are outstanding! But I was wondering why you don't use a waterproof detector like the Excaliber I am relatively new to detecting and am looking for a good beach detector that I can use in the water (wading) and on the beach wet and dry sand. What made you decide on the Sovereign and the Explorer.Thanks.

I was in the same position as you and decided to get the Excalibur , its great close to the water , its great not having to worry about getting caught out by a wave also and if its a rainy day , no problem and no messing about with plastic grocery bags for protection. The excalibur is just a waterproof version of the sovereign anyway?
 
I am about to purchase an Excalibur. I already have an Explorer II and have been using it for 2 years. It has been a great machine, but it cannot go where the Excalibur can go. This is my reason for getting an Excalibur. I would have gotten the Excalibur first but I heard it had wire problems when chest mounted and knob problems. I am currently getting the striaght rod for the wire fix and the knob guards.
Are there any other things that need to be looked at in regard to the Excalibur? I was especially wondering about the way to clean it after each use in salt water? I read different ways to keep it clean especially concerning the battery pack. I saw where one person suggested putting silicon around the battery pack? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
