Which is todays best larger coil for the V3i?

I have a V3i coming in a few days I got off eBay. From what I can see it looks almost unused. My brother passed away about 15 months ago. I am dealing with his estate which is in rough shape. I tore out an apartment and 3 garages 2 trees and detrashed the back area. 25 dump truck loads of what I call junk were hauled out. So now I have a at least on the surface clean yard. The house was built over 100 years ago and is a large 2 story 6 bedroom. There is .4 acres. I remodeled a small house for our mom about 6 years ago. I found silver dimes used as shims in the door ways. I know? The property is old enough to have silver and gold coins hidden in the depths. I plan to go over it with a fine tooth comb and many times until I am sure I have recovered everything there is to find. The detector I purchased has the stock 10" coil. I have been watching many video's and believe I have found some very good videos for me to learn the machine and get a fast start. Now I need to find the best large coil for depth. I do have experience with metal detectors but have been out of the hobby for a few years. Looking forward to using the V3i which I think will be a good match for the issues I see coming. I am going to clean it as much as possible before going deep. Any ideas are appreciated. Thank you.

Hello.
Think the 13" Detech DD will do a great job. If the area isn't that trashy the Super 12 concentric can be great, too, but depending on the detection field of the DD-coil I'd go for the Detech. The question is, how deep do you want to detect?

thanks for the reply. I was thinking the 13" Detech after I clear some of the trash my brother owner of the property for 45 years was a mechanic so I expect lots of iron trash and old nails. I will most likely cherry pick the first hunt then go back and dig trash. I may consider screening mush of the yard to get rid of iron trash. I really plan to make a project out of the yard and eventually the large house. I kind of want to document the experience and how I deal with the V3i to make it perform to the best of my ability. Finally I will probably ask a club to scearch the property to see what I missed. I was in Las Vegas for some years I searched the entrance to a ball diamond that I am sure had been searched many time. I had I think it was a MXT and a Minelab Explorer at the time. I went over it hard with one detector and felt I had done a through job. Then I went over it with the other detector and pulled out even more than the first run through. I was pretty shocked.

Personally I would like to see an updated V3i faster processor and all that but the basic idea behind the machine appears to me to one of the best. I plan to simplify my search tools and really learn the machine. It has so much I am sure setting aside that that doesn't apply to my case is the best start. Any ideas are appreciated. I did view one video that is going to set my first setup going. I am pretty excited right now. I should have my machine tomorrow. I will set it up explore what I think at the choicest areas and map out what I am finding.

I had the SEF 10x12 on both the DFX and V3i and it was a great coil. It was as light as the stock coil on the V3i and in my opinion added depth and separation over the stock 10 inch coil. I had this coil on the DFX and MX5 and if I still had a Whites detector, this would be the coil I would use. Try to put in a "wanted add" for whatever coil you decide on. I would bet that there is one sitting in someone's closet.

Wow, that sounds great and I think you will make some great finds. Personally I also like the Detech "Arrow", but it is limited in depth. If all settings are done and in mild soil it will give 8 inches; but ground covering is great.

I agree. Detech 10x12. The 13" coil just doesn't cut it like the 10x12. The 8x6 Detech is wonderful. Good depth down to 9 inches. The V3i seems to have been made for Detech, just not the 13 inch.

It also has 3 mini processors that were made by motorola for each frequency. The v3i is not a decade old yet, its about 3 months off being 10 years old." Ante.
The White's metal detectors are quite durable. I watched a video where a 6' tall man held a Whites over his head and dropped it on a concrete sidewalk; ergo, it took a licking and kept on ticking.

I was wondering about the Arrow for getting between junk and what depth a person could get. Thanks for the info.

Got my V3i today. Cleanest machine from any source ever. Doesn't appear to have had any use. The only exception was the AA battery box some batteries had leaked inside it. As we all know that tells you it wasn't getting any use and it looks it. The previous owner had back issues so it is hard to blame him. I started off problems for myself by putting in a rechargable battery that quickly went dead confusing the electronics so I was getting a blinking screen even when I went to the freshly cleaned up and loaded AA batt box it took about 30 seconds for it to reboot itself and quickly got back to what I expected. I was worried at first until I realized it was me that was the problem.

Congrats on the new machine and welcome to the Spectra-Club. The Arrow is a great coil with superb target separation and pinpoint is dead on. As I wrote above it is limited in depth, but for only 4 inch width it IS really deep. I use this coil for larger areas and fast ground covering.

I have a Spectre Vison bought in '09, upgraded to v3i. Couple of years ago I bought a Detech 13". 12-13" quarters are no problem. Have quarter at 6" with nail 1 1/2" to the side - sweeping lengthwise get 'nail sound', crossways get fairly good hit. Also a 1 1/4 'token' At 8" with 16d nail 2" over it. Same signal as quarter above. Nickles, dimes, pennys at 9"-10" - no problem. Last - a 3 1/2" thin metal 'advertising' badge at 27". The AM will hit it although pinpoint is off about 3". On these deep targets the ID is off somewhat. All in all am well pleased with it.

Since I got the V3i it has been very chirpy and sounded like it had a bad coil. I also have a MXT all pro with the same coil. The MXT is very stable so no issue. I swapped the coils and the V3i is still chirpy (unstable) I was thinking maybe it is the machine. But there is no place to check it or I don't know of one. I bought a Eclipse 5.3 which I can use on either machine. I put it on the V3i today and it settled it right down. I made a place to test some coins and it separates and identifies as it should. The weather is poor so didn't take it outside to test it. I have a back yard where I recently had an apartment and 3 garages torn down and there was a lot of metal junk. The ground is going to be full of metal junk. The few times I took the V3i out there it was hard on the ears. Really want to try it with the smaller more stable coil.

I have a 5.3 Eclipse that is V-rated, it has a V stamped on the side of the coil ear. Have a Great Day.

The best test of your coil is to turn your sensitivity as high as you can without the detector overloading. If its perfect you can go all the way to RX=15.

Good to know. I love all of my Detech coils on the V. They run full 15 sensitivity even with turbo on and work great, at least with the 8x6 coil! I never had a 5.3 coil.

The 10x12 is the best large coil. The 13" seems to wash out in performance. I still own them all. "Whites OEM coils" seem to lose the V-rating tune fairly easy if left in the heat. The 4x6 is strong. Detech is great!

The coil that came with it was the D2 Spectra series.
