Which detector would you use to find Gold chains

That could be. I just haven't had much luck with them. I wanted the Compadre to become my tot lot machine so bad because it is so light and pleasant to swing. First I bought a Compadre with the 8" and when I posted that I wasn't impressed with the results I was told I needed the 5.75 coil. I bought one with the 5.75 coil and got the same results. No depth. I was then told my coil must be bad so I tried one more time and bought a third Compadre with the 5.75 coil. The results you see in the video.

I judge depth ability by the experiences I've had with other machines. I used a DFX for may years and they kill on gold when setup right, but the depth was just so so. I didn't realize this until I got a MXT and when I went through the same tot lots I'd been hunting for years I was pulling nasty coins from under 7" of wood chips and in the dirt below we had been missing for years. The AT Pro did the same thing first time I hit my tot lots with it. Like the MXT it pulled a lot of coins below the tot lots fill and in the dirt below. Those coins had been out of the range of all the other detectors we had used for many years. That to me is a sign of a good tot lot machine. If it can hit the same open gold earrings, chains and also pull coins from below the fill they meet my needs. The Deus can also do this as well but it would be nice with a smaller coil and a smaller price.

For me my best to date tot lot detectors are the MXT with the 6x8 and AT Pro with the 5x8.

I have had two Padres and both (5.75") have given me 6" maybe 7" on an exceptional day.
They are my tot machine of choice for the simple fact they are light, and effective. But my tots don't have deep over burden unless they get up graded and 80% of them have ground mats. . Added to that I am in them constantly so anything there to find is basically on top.
Now if I find a tot that's new to me I hit it with either the M6 or MXT. On the grass I only use the M series.

For me, chain hunting is a mental exercise. Different setup, different sweep, different focus. Haven't done it in a while as it takes a bit of time which I've been short on lately.

My chain hunting machine is the F5. I have found more chains with it than any other. I like it better than even the higher frequency F19. The F5 can be ran at very low gain settings with totally wide open, audio boosted threshold settings. That allows me to focus on chain signals without having all the other deeper stuff giving so much interference. The low gain settings also give a nice coil foot print, too. it may not hit on the tiny links very well due to operating frequency, but on the tiny ones, if there is still a clasp on it, I can find it with the F5.

I understand the mental exercise. The Compadre is my choice but the tiny pieces of foil and unbelievably teeny objects that come with the really fine gold chains make picking your site a chore. I can't imagine having the patience in a trashy area.

If you hunt tot lots and you're not picking them clean of all tiny pieces of foil you're missing gold. All my tot lots are clean and quiet as a mouse unless something has been dropped.

All tot lot gold from just three months of digging it all.

@Southwind,that is a fair amount of gold, using the right tool for the job and also fully understanding how to use it for gold chain hunting

Our totlots are the pits, rarely find more than a few coins in them. The :canadaflag: kids here don't wear gold lol.

In the UK its very rare that we are allowed access to parks/totlots are as our governing bodies always use the trump card of 'health and safety' so most folks dont detecting on these types of sites, althought some folks have been granted pernission,in general is a no go.

The other thing with totlots or play areas in the UK if a adult is seen hanging around a childrens play area its a taboo thing and stand a high chance that the 'Old Bill' could be called out with the old blue lights flashing.

I agree. I have quit my exercise regimen on some days because of bending over with the Compadre checking every signal is keeping me fit!

shame I live in povo town :nopity: but there is a bit in there in between the countless tabs and bits of foil, canslaw etc and yep keeps me moving and cheaper than gym fee's so keep on swingin and digin

I'm a newbie. This sounds like an irony of life. The sound from the machine isn't saying, "Jackpot! You've found gold!"

The early bird catches the worm. Everything I've read on the forum makes it sound worth it to get up at 5 a.m. and hit the beach tomorrow morning, the Monday after a summer weekend, before it opens for the day.

Thanks for the encouragement!

do a test with some gold chains on any machine and see how hard it is to find it in air let alone underground

Most of all are you willing to dig all the foil and trash that fall into the gold chain disc range to get that (small) gold chain(s)?
