The 5” is incredible when your able to settle into a hunt and work a dense area. Otherwise a sharpshooter size will suffice.I know have four coils. The 11” DD and the 5” Fisher. Aftermarket I got the SEF 12x10 Butterfly and the Sharpshooter. If open ground and unknown content then I use the Butterfly as bigger swath and making hits to 8” easily. It seems to work a bit better than the 11”DD. THE sharpshooter is a laser in trashy ground or working a small area. I dont have much time on the 5”..... Using on F75SE
Were the detectors settings set up the same ?A couple of years ago my buddy was running the Sharpshooter coil on his F 75 and I had on the 5 x 10 DD. He had just recently gotten his Sharpshooter so we decided to compare some deeper targets along with some that seemed partially masked. At the end of the day we determined that the Sharpshooter seemed to have a smaller sweet spot and ultimately unmasked a bit better. We were hunting a very trashy park. The 5 x 10 DD, however, got about a inch more depth on a dime/penny size target and seemed a bit easier to get a good pin point with with its sweet spot on the tip of the coil. I do a fare amount of woods hunting in the winter and I much prefer the 5 x 10 for that. HH Jim tn
On which make/model detector? Coil choice can make a big difference. There will be differences in weight & balance based on the coil's design as well as the detector and rod configuration. I'm not sure which Fisher model you're referring to. Nor for what types of applications. For me and the sites I generally hunt, and with most Fisher or Teknetics models, if it is a DD coil I need to have a 5" DD and a 2nd coil I'd take the NEL Sharpshooter to the factory solid 5X10.The 5×10 Fisher Eliptical or the NEL Sharpshooter 5.5" × 9.5".
Please keep us posted on how the Superfly performs on those two machines. It’s real good on the T2 but not a huge leap from the stock coil actually. Some places I would still prefer the stock coil.I'm about to add the New NEL Superfly Coil. All my F5 coils work on my F19 so I hope this will work as I need a bigger round DD.
C.J.M. Do you mean it did that much better than stock coil? I have the 10" and 5" with my F5.I bought a Nel 9.5" x 5.5" sharp shooter for the F-5--WOW BLEW MY SOCKS OFF.
Sharpshooter lacks an inch or so on the stock coil. Maybe a little more. It’s the best swinging and performing coil though. It holds up to the hype pretty well. And on larger relics it’s plenty deep. I recovered a zinc fuse piece and a shell fragment. Each were nearly a foot deep. The zinc piece was a whisper and the iron was a buzzy little whisper. The faint repeatable targets get me pumped up with the g2.Got a sharpshooter at a low price when I got my g2+ and due to weather haven’t had a chance to use it yet with either nel or stock coil. Anxious to compare so ican decide which to use as main coil.
I told you you would get to like that coil....especially when it gets hot and dry ...it still performs the same no matter wet conditions or dry.Update for the SEF Butterfly. Went to big athletic intramural field today with this coil, I had not previously run this coil on this field. I intentionally slowed my swing and decided to dig every solid hit no mater what and see how accurate the ID and depth were on the F75. I did this for two swaths 50 yds out and 50 back. Dug two called clad dimes at 8-9”, one clad quarter at 8”, one Canadian nickel at 7” that was bumping high dime/low quarter numbers, and three Mem pennies at 6-8” inches. The second surprise (after the nickel) was three pull tabs at close to 10” that were jumpy nickel/tab numbers. Everything was clear and sharp on the hits. I also dug a friendship pendant at 8” which indicated zinc/dime area.
We have pretty well worked this field and I went to an area near the batting cages which earlier had produced a fair amount of coins and jewelry. I was a little surprised how much I was finding and how much deeper and accurate this coil is compared to the 11”DD factory. SEF now will be main coil with NEL Sharpshooter as smaller coil as primary and the 11” and 5” factory coils as secondaries.
