well said! as you mentioned,a combination of factors are in play right now,and as negative as this sounds,
it HAS to be mentioned!..to be blunt!.."if we don't take acre of business,we are all F**ked!",and will "hang" together!

Elton: Had two officers stop and question me just this past week. In my 25 years of detecting, this is the first for me.

Bulletman

bulletman, most municipalities are cutting back in response to financial problems. As the economy gets more unstable our public servants get more watchful to justify their existence so that hopefully the can keep their jobs.

We are easy targets and have always been at risk as such, but now even more so.

One thing that may help is to be pro-active in offering our services to the local agencies for locating lost articles, teaching officers how to use detectors and letting people know about out "removing potentially harmful" metal objects from playgrounds and beaches. Doing so as a club spreads the word as well.

Showing these folks our hunting code of ethics and being a good example of someone who practices what he (or she) preaches helps!

I don't know every constable in my small town (I do know several to say "hi" to), but they all know who I am. They know what I do and I get referrals from them when people lose jewelry locally.

Where our hobby goes from here into the future is largely in our hands!

Works for me,

CJ
