What's The Bset Machine For Beach & Water Hunting ?

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
Hi Guy's - I do 99% of my hunting on land but my Wife And Daughter want to try some beach and shallow water hunting for jewelry.
They would mainly be hunting in fresh water but would also going to salt water beaches a few times a year.

I need your opinions, so here's my question ...

What machine would you guy's suggest would be good for them ?

We don't want to get a low dollar machine - don't want to spend a ton of money on the best machine made for water hunting either.
Just a real good quality detector that they could use for years with out having to upgrade - a detector that would also be good for land use.
Also weight is a factor - they would like to get a machine that's on the lighter side if possible.

Thanks in advance for your replies and Good Hunting !

Well...your parameters put you right in the AtPro boilerroom... It is at its most powerful in fresh water of course, but a person can run it in the salt if they had to..

.It would be very hard to beat it as a jewelry machine in fresh water/dirt even up against many top shelf rigs....and its light enough, good resale value, lots of coils/ phones, etc....
Mud.

Due to the mineralization of the Salt Water beaches the AT-Pro is not the best tool for the job but I see folks swinging them all the time at the beach and they do find targets.

Salt Water Beaches are a tough environment so one may not get as much depth with the AT-Pro as with machines that were designed to work that environment. But the AT-Pro is an overall very good machine.

Your question was..... whats the best water machine, then you restricted us. Used Xcal Blue right now is the simpliest to learn, works anywhere, and is a good producer. At the end of the day, id compare finds with about anyone. There is no perfect machine..... all have their weaknesses.

Ditto to Dews post...

C'mon guys!...the dudes from Ohio! Wants a reasonable priced and worthy light rig for the Wife and Daughter to use for both dirt coins and water jewelry..simple and easy to learn....might see a bit of use occasionally on the salt! Oh sure somebody will come along and throw out a Sandshark perhaps, Or maybe even a DetectorPro, but NOT a 'Lab! Not for this application anyway...Somebody tell me I'm wrong and why! Sheesh!
Really though EtracO, does your Wife and Daughter SERIOUSLY want to join you on your hunts? I'm guessing its more your wish than theirs!:lmfao: Theyd find more jewelry and have a lot more fun going Garage Saling! My Wife sure does!:sadwalk: Heres what she found one morning Garage Saling with a nice little note for us!...:inlove:

I repeat....... WHATS THE BEST MACHINE FOR BEACH AND WATER HUNTING. If you want to go less expensive....... then we arent talking BEST, we are talking what will work on jewelry and is light enough to swing for the whole family. Every company has a machine that will do this....... depending on how deep or how small of jewelry you are looking for.

Oh there you go! There you go! Every time I try to talk about boxing, some Minelabber pulls Rocky Marciano out they @ss!

Read EtracOh's post very carefully again, Dew,...His Wimmen folk are not like you and OBN and Geo...! If they are anything like MY girls, I doubt they will burn the first set of batteries through any rig before giving it up!:lmfao: In fact, I bet they think what we do is pretty dang gay to begin with!..:lmfao:..

Go with the AtPro, Etrac! Or go with nothing! Better yet, just forget the whole deal and get yourself something with the money!...Those girls will find another diversion soon enough to keep them occupied, and it wont involve YOU!..It will cost you money though, you can count on that! Kudos for trying anyway, although I suspect its in an effort to assuage your own guilt for being gone so much!......

Seriously, how many Wimmen hang out here that we know are as addicted to this sport as us? We got Eva, Nancy, and that new girl from Silverslingers...I'll even toss in NuggetNoggin's, Abby just to round out the card, still, you cant field a team with just those four, and only Eva swings a 'Lab!!

I was thinking a lot of people would say to go with a Garrett AT Pro.
It's amazing how many great finds are made with them on land and in the water !

Thanks for the replies !

I know right Etrac? You lobbed that pitch right into the strike zone for a heavy Pro response!:clapping: Flipped that jitterbug right under my nose and I had to blow up on it! Lets see if anybody else steps up and take this easy swing...the dang Pro has made me money! And I am a very discriminant buyer...still cant get my girls to go hunt with me though, as exciting as it is for me, they just dont see it.....they are very smart, they just take all the gold I find when I get home..:sadwalk:. Forget the whole deal and get yourself something with that money!...

Whites is introducing some new machines..... ooooo and ML has that Go pro LOL. Just let ya know mud... there is a posse of 4 women that hit my little beach most mornings. You ever seen 4 women helter schelter hunting? Its like opening day at a GoodWill.

Yea ... The parameters kind of lead towards something like the AT Pro. A tiger shark isn't far off either. I don't know enough about the new ML Go-Find detectors to even comment.

Mudd,
Congrats to your wife!! For 15 minutes of shopping, looks like that pro-rates to about $120 per hour. Not shabby at all. :clapping: And I bet she came home from that treasure hunt smelling a lot better than one of us would after a hunt that turned a potential $30 or better in profit.
Cheers,
tvr

John.... the tones are the same. They just run smoother and tend to be more durable. Just sweet running machines especially in PP.

Wait, What! Bootyhound is a Laurie?
I just read your other post addressing her as such! I did not know! I'll have to pay better attention around here from now on!! Thanks Pete! I wonder how many others are hiding behind avatars! :clapping:

E-Trac-Ohio.....wanting your wife and daughter to take up Your hobby is probably a well known sentiment of most of us!!!....Most likely they will try it a few times and then get side tracked into easier hobies such as sunbathing or watching you hunt!....I would get them a rental and see how it goes.....if they really like hunting then they would have some reference points on what they really like in the features of a metal detector!! ....Just my thoughts I have seen this before and this is how many detectors become closet queens.

I have to say AT-PRO is hard to beat for Freshwater/landhunting. Just too much bang for the buck. The AT-PRO and the Pro pinpointer are the 2 best things Garrett makes today. IMHO.

No, Mud . . . Laurie of Relicdirtyhands! I quoted Bootyhound because of the reference to her licking a coin that had dirt on it.

:sadwalk:

I saw you compliment her recently in another one of the forums. Her and her husband Eric (and their children) make some of the best MDing videos I've seen (music, editing, etc.).

You try and you try and you try and what do you get? . . . heartache, nothing but heartache! (ok, I'm done being dramatic) :poke:

You know what you have to do, Mud.
