Whats the best water detector?

mrschile

New member
I dont want to go under completely -
But need it to be completly water proof

Also What's probe is the best.

I've found that most of the good stuff is just off shore.
Alot less trash
Im using THE Minlab EX2 in the last picture. "Not Practical For Water"
I found four rings last weekend in 2' of water in three hours
I really want to get into water detecting.

Its easy to see Why : Make this a 360 degree view - Parker Arizona Sand Bar

Your advise is greatly appriciated.

I have been with a Minelab Excalibur 800 for many years. I have found a lot of gold and other Jewelry. I do find things that are too small and fall thru the scoop slowing me down at times. Because the Excalibur discriminates well I can pick up the gold and leave the Nails and other stuff for the PI's
Sure would not like to see a machine not made for water fall in the drink.

You will get different POV's with your question...:) If you're just hunting water I would go with a PI ... I hunt with a PI PRO and find very little trash hunting waist to chest deep water... Don't buy that garbage the PI's find all the trash.. I see the VLF's find their fair share of trash as well, last time I looked pulltabs, bottlecaps and bits of aluminum was trash.. When you're in the deeper water the trash goes down... I do not hunt the wet/dry sand with a PI it would drive you crazy... I think a PI deserves a chance or the BeachHunter or similar detectors.. Water hunting for me is hunting where others won't... I look for depressions out behind sand pushed up onshore and usually the bottom make-up is shells and gravel and this has been prime gold area's for me as well as hunting in area's devoid of any sand and all rock, I have pulled 15 gold rings from all rock type beaches and usually the targets are very shallow a couple inches.. I haven't been waterhunting that long 9 months, but I learned pretty fast over a 110 rings so far. Good luck in your search for a detector :)

I'm an Excalibur guy. I work areas where there are tons of nails and other iron debris so I love the Excal.

I've used PI machines but where I hunt there's just too much iron trash to make PI practical.

Judging from your picture though, I agree with Craig that the PI is probably the way to go. It doesn't look like an area where you'll find much iron junk like nails. PI's go deep too and they're supposed to be killer on gold chains.

Great area! Post more pics of your hunts there.

Only drawbacks are cost and I think its only rated waterproof to 2 meters. Much deeper than the Whites but the Whites is a machine thats stood the test of time and offers perhaps the best performance to depth ratio of the underwater machines.

I was using the EX2 with the 14" excelerator coil (EQ2 Pro)- goes deep
This was all found in about 2' of water.
You know they drained a lake by our house.
Ive found over 125 rings since Jan 13, 2006
40 some watches
4 gold cains - 0ne @ 32.9 grams
Best find was platinum 2 ct. diamond wedding band - princes cut diamonds
earings - silver chains - money clips
400lbs fishing weights "sunglasses!! who's counting!!"
This is what spiked my interest at the sand bar.

Im still working the lake, but if you like to see the totals so far?
Let me know and Ill post Some pic's. Over 10 0z. gold so far.

because I hunt both shallow & deeper water for rings. Rings can be found at any depth in the water, Mom's & Grandma's diamond rings are found right along the shore line where they play with the children all day, right in with bobbie pins, screws & nails. The Excalibur with tones will help reduce unnecessary digging and allow me to find more Gold in a days hunt! IMHO. H.H.:)

Got an idea to help you make your decision on a water rig. If you have the capability to make your detector all metal, do it and hunt the same area you have been hunting and see what you get. If it's not full of ferrous, then buy a pi and if you get a pouch full of nails, then buy an Excal. If your pockets are deep enough, buy both. I still believe there is a time and place for both. I have the Excal 1000 and Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II, but am seriously contemplating a Goldquest Aquasearch, suppose to be the baddest pi known to man. Good luck in your decision. GH

for sampling the area for iron junk.

I think he's using an Explorer which must have an all metal mode.

That's great! You found a sweet area.

Keep the pics coming please.

I like the tokens too.

Don't hurt your back carrying all that loot back from the water!

I wouldn't hesitate on a Detector Pro Diver or Wader, same machine but Diver can go 100 ft underwater if needed. Wader is good for 6 ft and thats the headphones. They are very light and I've had good luck with mine. CZ20 is also a great machine if you can find one.Rule #1 in the water is if it's not iron dig it and if it's big iron or big target dig it anways and check underneath it..Good luck and let us know what you decide.

G'day Bruce,
Mate thats some awesome finds, definately would like to see more pics of jewelery found

Keep it up Bruce, bring that gold home!!!

Cheers Freddy (Aus)

EX2 with a 14" excelerator coil. Goes Deep as were most of my finds.
These were all found in a lake that was recently drained for repair.
Grid it and dig it. I dig everything.
If you were in the minlab forum you may have followed my daily pics.
Record was six rings in one day. Which I did twice - Three days I found 5 rings in one day.
I cant make up my mind on a water detector. But I'm sold on Minlab.
Is this forum partial to any particular brand???

Please No Questions!!
Haven't run this one dry yet.

Believe it or not There's More!!

Because you know Minelab and that lake ain't gonna stay dry forever. I still would run it in all metal and see what you get. That's an UNBELIEVEABLE LOAD for such a short time. It does not look like you have any competition!

If anyone asks for the location, tell them with one small stipulation
you'd have to kill them! Honey hole of a lifetime!!!!!!! Steve

cash in a little clad and go for the Excal. Your experience with Minelab machines should serve you well. No long learning curve. Several of the members can give you recommendations on setting it up for comfortable use or search some recent "straight shaft" posts. Incredible lake finds, you have found the "MOTHER LOAD". Congrats :)
