What's it worth?:hot: Master Hunter VLF/TR Deep Seeking

Teach

New member
Hi guys/gals

A customer of mine brought into my shop a Garrett Master Hunter Deep Seeking ADS VLF/TR detector. Still in the original box but has been used a fair bit but not abused. Cosmetically it looks just about perfect on the main body. Bottom of the coil shows minimal if any wear. There is also a small 3''? prospecting coil in addition to the 8 or 9 inch standard coil. Neither show much wear. Only thing I could detect as even remotely wrong with it is the VLF/TR switch on the handle is a little sticky and doesn't flow the way it should. A drop of light oil may be all that is needed there.

This thing looks in almost new condition. Any suggestions on what it would be worth for me to buy? The ole boy wants to sell it.

That's a new one. It's probably one of these.

With number 1 being extreme left and number 4 being extreme right, number 4 is the closest. The coil on this one is solid and not hollow in the middle like the donut one shown. I should have payed more attention to detail of the control knobs but I seem to remember 4 larger knobs with a switch in the middle, 2 knobs = switch = 2more knobs. I'd have to double check that tomorrow. I thought you gurus on here would have known all this stuff hehehe............guess there are just too many configs over the years to pinpoint the specific model when I cant even tell you how old it is. I does use 6x 9volt batteries if that helps. Has a two piece take apart wand handle plus the cuff. Nice little package when taken down.

Okay, looks like I was out to lunch. The dial configuration goes like this from left to right.

TR small knob, VLF ground cancel small knob, two knobs for tuning the one on the left uses a screwdriver, nest to that is the Automatic./ Manual mode selector, the a small toggle switch for checking batteries 1 & 2, and finally in the far right is the Large round knob for power and sensitivity knob. There is one additional control in the end of the handle that is a toggle switch. I am thinking this is an older A.D.S. Deepseeker and not one of the Master Hunter models? Can't be sure as I don't know enough about these older models. Oooops, I just found a small decal on the end of the body that indeed states Master Hunter ADS.

I had one of those when they were cutting edge and recently bought one on Ebay for $88.00 plus shipping. When those were made Garrett was turnin' and burnin' in advancing detector technology. Even today they are good machines provided the operator takes time to learn how to adjust and use them. I'll also note that the "Deepseeker" machines really were deep seeking. They would find things so far down that you got tired of digging before you got there. JK!

No more than $100 to $150 in top condition which this one appears not to be. Would be wise to check with Garrett to find out the cost of repairs and tweaking it back to original before you cough up the loot. They are still great machines in top condition.

Don't know what gave you this impression Willy, This machine is like new in the box. Perhaps you misunderstood something that I wrote. Sometimes I'm not as clear as I should be.

Probably so.That's what happens when you get old and try to keep up with a few hundred posts. :) Is this like the one you're speaking of.

Bill

Yes similar but the controls are differently located. See my description above. Also mine only says ADS not ADS III. So the one you show here Willy I'm sure is a newer version of it. My freind bought it for $150 including batteries and the second prospecting coil. I felt he did ok. It will be a good enough machine to let him know if he likes detecting or not. He can then keep it, step up or sell it if he hates detecting.

Thanks all for the input. Much appreciated.

Yeah it's a good buy at that price and still a machine that will hold its own with what's out there today. I've got a pic or ad of that detector somewhere, just too lazy to look for it. HAA.

Here is a photo I took today Willy.
