What would YOU chose?

If you out of three modifications to your brand new Excalibur II only were to do one (if any!), what would it be?

* Change the original headphones to a better pair?
* Change and hard-wire to a more efficient coil?
* Change the rod to a more balanced one?

Or perhaps something else that I have not thought about?

Hard to say but since I have done 2 of the 3....hmmm....I'll say change the headphones to the Grey Ghost.
And place magnets in your scoop.

but, provide better tone separation. My yellow headphone Excal 1000 does not provide as distinctly different tones as Mike VBs older Blue Headphone Excal. It's like night and day. My tone differences are very subtle and you have to listen hard to really tell. On Mike's, I noticed the difference in tones dramatically. I don't know what they did but it wasn't an improvement when they came out with the yellow headset 1000.

So grey ghost headphones are really good whit excal and sovereign?

i agree with cotton the best mod of the three would be the straight shaft . then the head phones and forget about the coil until you get used to the machine . and put a strap on the arm cup . i dont know why minelab sells the excall with no strap and every other detector they make has one...... go figure. i buy the minelab neoprene ones from their gold machines . they are comfortable and look nice. you do have to drill some holes and take the snaps off the strap and replace with stainless button head bolts and washers . but once it is done it is done.

Headphones......change them to Grey Ghosts......is second
and then if you need to......change the coil......but the one you have is pretty good to begin with.

If you have ar have not purchased a detector yet?

If you are just purchasing the detector have the headphone mod. done at factory for the quick change.........we offer it done before purchase for a very small fee.
Ask yourself why should I want to have this done........Little down time, shipping only headphones if issue arises, quick change out if on a trip.

And if you purchased the same detector from us, you get a free straight shaft.......

See for those that puchase the detector from us all the above whould cost 1250.00..........you just need to purchase the aftermarket headphones. But it is ready for the headphone exchange.

I'm Wishing I knew this when I ordered now....

Based on my experience using the Excal II 1000 (I never had the orig Excal)

Straight shaft (one w/ a strap on the arm cup) first & foremost is the #1 change
Headphones #2 (comfort thing for me....wish I had them changed when I first got it now....)

Get the straight shaft first but upgrade the headphones asap after you get a proper shaft. The S shaft that comes standard on most underwater detectors is a bad joke, you're tired before you even get started.

Cheers,

I hear the samething on all the forums when talking about the M/L. First thing everyone does is start changing stuff? I wish the makers would get off the pot and start doing these things from the get go $1250.00 is alot of loot and then have to spend ?$500.00 more after the purchase? M/L needs like others to wake up and smell the epoxy!! lol. Yall take care!

Try e-mailing ML and see what they have to say. I walked them through the process over a year ago and they weren't interested. The Excal still has lousy headphones and an S shaft but at least they upgraded the battery and gave it a fancy paint job.:laugh:
