If it doesn't have a date, then what years were they minted.

My oldest coin was a 1965 quarter!!!!

I hope you all can do better than me...:detecting:

My oldest: 1806 British Half-Penny. My oldest US coin is 1889 Seated Liberty dime, in lousy condition. I've found quite a number of early 1900's cents, dimes and nickels. One 1901 Barber quarter (unfortunately not an "S" mint) and one 1898 Barber dime.

My oldest datable non-coin find is a coat button from Emperor Maximilian's army....around 1860's or so.

Nearly all my finds have been with a White's MXT with a 5" Excelerator DD coil.

Marc

They were only minted on a leap year, and only during when a flock of pink elephants flew by the Mint!.....WAIT!!....Maybe it was the year the rumour was spread in town....( If you rub your coins you will have good luck)!!!!!.....I don't know....I make it up as I go along........:wiggle:

....a 1773 spanish 2 reale. then a 1781 spanish half reale... then a 1795 spanish 2 reale. almost in that order, too. i think it's odd that my three oldest coins recovered are all spanish silver. but that's the way the hobby rolls.expect the unexpected at all times!!! hh, and good post t - fiend.

i found this coin in a park and took it to a world coin dealer who said it dated to 500 A.D what or how it got here in my area is a complete mystery

It looks like the guy is wearing a kilt!.....must be a scottish coin?......or maybe it is a Home Depot apron for his finds?

I can't really remember.

I sold it about 20 years ago.

I think it was a 185? seated liberty.

HH,

Great find guys!!!! You all beat me and my 1965 clad quarter!!!!!

My oldest US coin was a 1805 dime, which I sold to help finance my hobby. And just so you know, I have regretted selling it more times than you can imagine. It is unlikely I will find a better coin in my lifetime. When you are young, you see dollar signs. When you get older you appreciate its real value, its uniqueness. Think about it before you act!!!

1854 Seated dime in pretty good condition. Found a few months ago at an old homesite.

You guys make me jealous! Living in Washington, its hard to find really old coins here, although I have only been at it about a month. I will keep trying until I die. I amy have to take a trip someday to Connecticut! My oldest so far is a 1937 wheat penny.
