What setting could make a v3i ID incorrectly?

I've been messing around with setting on my V3i and when I make a few small adjustments it tends to start ID'ing the targets incorrectly even at point blank range. I am doing this indoors and in air test, could it be when I run hot it's the interference that's screwing up the reading? When I go back to stock everything works fine. I'm not sure what if any settings could cause an incorrect ID.

There is a setting you might touched that converts the traditional id to a ''normalized'' id. You have to mess a bit further with the detector and your manual where it is explained in it. It is a check and unchecked box with the word normalize next to it. I can't remember where it is now but it's there. Hope this helps.

What do you mean by incorrect? Give some examples.

Indoor testing to lean your detector is fine but don't expect the changes made to work OK outdoors. Serious testing should be done away from EMI and in the ground targets used to tweak for stability and depth.

Thanks, I'm running Gain, Sens, etc lower because of the EMI's indoors, and I really can't do much with ground tracking or any features like that in air test but I'm just getting use to the menu, target ID, and tones. It should allow me to run pretty hot in the woods around here, I use to run the sens and Pre-amp pretty high on my old XLT with disc wide open.

Also by ID'ing incorrectly, it was showing a quarter as iron, foil etc.

I use a 2' roll of masking tape and have a coin and bottle cap pull tabs, etc placed every 8' or so on the tape then place another tape on top of it to sandwich this all together then roll this out in the house away from TV's etc set your detector on the custom program with the DC and AC set to 50, turn on what ever you like such as VCO,,tone ID or what ever and detect as you like This will ID and pinpoint accurate and give you all the practice you need until the weather improves and you can get outside.
Good luck Don

Nope postal, I'm in PA and using US coins. I'll have to take it out in the front yard tomorrow and see how it behaves with the custom program, I'm thinking it might be interference. I'm having a lot of luck (air test anyway) with the stock coin/jewelery mode and bumping up the gain and disc sens.

Thanks DFX I'll give it a try. I'm heading out most likely Monday to put an hour or two on the detector, and I might get in a a few min in my front yard tomorrow, it's a small piece of ground but the home is 110 years old so who knows what I might find. I just need to make sure my mom doesn't see me digging up the lawn haha. I'm going to bring out my F75 with 11in coil also and compare signals.

Check your floors for nails, wiring, water pipes or rebar if concrete before trying out DFXDon's method. My whole floor lights up to the metal detector without anything I have put down to test.
Good luck!
