what one is the best of the two?

Hi Joe; Good pick. Your all set right out of the box. On the headphones get theirs. They are usually calibrated to their own detectors although they work good in others to and the cost is about the same no matter what and they are warranteed as well. REMEMBER: you can not take the M6 directly in the water or get it wet but it works great on the low tide mud flats.Pinpoiters do make it easier to find your target but I like the extra thrill of the hunt so to speak. On the tumbler DO NOT ever mix copper with "anything" else. It wil by an plating action cause everything to turn copper colored. That is why you should get the double barrell tumbler. Copper in one barrell,(Mark it somehow) and everything else in the second barrell.PS: Do not clean any coin you may suspect is valuable ok.Take it to the dealer. They will advise you as to what to do_Or you can ask us here. In order to find out if your coin is valuable look in the Yeoman Red Book ok.Last you do not "need" different coils on the M6 ok.You set right out of the box.The good Magnifying glass is so you can see what the heck your looking at. Some items can be very hard to read and rubbing the dirt off will DESTROY their value. put them in your pouch until you get home. When you do, place them in a small thing of water and let the water do its work. every few days use a "very" soft toothbrush to remove the dirt by rubbing the item "very" gently/ Ok. Until later; PEACE:RONB :detecting::goodnight:
PS: DON"T foget the extra batteries always with you and get either Duracell or Energizer as they do last. :clapping:

Hey Joe,
I was in the EXACT same boat as you when I decided to start detecting only 2 months ago. I was very anxious to get out and start hunting so I actually placed an order w/ Kellyco for a Viper Trident for what I THOUGHT was a good deal. Luckily I read some of these forums before it was shipped and cancelled my order.( Kellyco's service was great) I ended up purchasing a near-mint used Fisher 1280x. In hindsight I've determined that I actually over-paid for it but at least I got a high quality detector that works very good for what it's made for. I've since upgraded. Read and educate yourself and above all LISTEN TO THESE VETS. There is way more to understand and learn in this hobby than you know (but you will !) and the advice and expertise you will get here has taken these guys/girls years of practice and countless hours of hunting to acquire. Read it, believe it and use it. Why re-invent the wheel ? Good luck and HH

I hunt lake michgan 50 miles north of chicago with an excalibur 8 inch coil and haven't had problems at all with iron, there just isn't too much of it where I hunt, if there is no black sand at the lakeshore it works great, but once the black sand moves in the depth drops way off. The sands of the big lake are always shifting too and you always want the most depth you can get, black sand or not, thats why I go with the excal over the tigershark. Usually when the black sands are present is when erosion has taken place and it is a good time to hunt but it is frustrating knowing you are not getting everything. The excal is fine in the lake, no black sand problem there. I am looking into buying a PI for punching through the black sands at the lake/shore interface.

If you are looking for a PI machine to punch through, I would recommend the Whites DF. The dual coil design is highly effective in my experience.

Way Way Way too much small iron, can pieces nails. The PI would drive him completely up the wall!!

You keep knocking us out with your salt water finds and your PI machine and let us freshwater pirates handle this problem!!!

If you look back to the previous page I strongly suggest that a PI machine is a bad idea in freshwater but the reader doesn't want to see sense. So rather than do this:rage:, I'll point him in the direction of the best PI machine IMHO and let him figure it out for himself.

Never wrestle with a pig is what my gramp always told me.

According to Gramp (may he rest in peace) you should never wrestle with a pig because if you do you are going to get pig muck on you and the longer you wrestle with that pig the more of that muck you will get on you - but here's the worst part - not only will you get pig muck on you the longer you wrestle with that pig but the longer you wrestle with that pig the more the pig will like it.:crylol:
